Osby

Geez, reading this thread some of you sure do think highly of yourselves. Seems to me a few of you like to re-write history to make yourselves seem like you know it all.

Here's what really happened.

Last year when Capel, Billy Tubbs, Stacy King, Fran Fraschilla (and just about every other commentator that sat in on a practice) said he was the best player on the floor (not Karl Malone or Michael Jordan) and not a single one of you said "ohh, there's no way he's that good". Instead most on this board just took it further and overhyped a guy that averaged a whopping 4 ppg at Miss St.

But now you are acting like you knew all along that he wasn't that good.

MEANWHILE the guy that some of the same people on this board overhyped and are calling a dissapointment is averaging 12 ppg, and already has 3 double-doubles in 5 games. What did you expect? 20 ppg? Average a triple-double?

You guys acting like you are so dissapointed should realize that if you ARE disspointed in a guy that has so far TRIPLED his scoring average from Miss St, then you are a moron for thinking he'd be a superstar in the first place.

I kind of agree. And besides, if Osby was hyped to be the best player on last years roster, that wasn't such a high bar.

Seems to me that only one person thinks they know everything.

Who is disappointed in Osby? It seems to me most people say he is a really good player. I sure think he is and I think he is going to be even better next season. With that said, he was overhyped to the point that averaging a double double or close to it just seems good. A double double is huge. Very few players can actually do that.

I dont think Capel was fair to Osby by putting so much of the teams expectations on his shoulders...it would have been impossible to meet those expectations after the way he was touted...

That being said, he is a very solid player, i dont see an NBA guy in him but i do see a all conference 2nd or 3rd team kind of guy...which is nice...good addition to the team and i see him getting much more comfortable game to game...

This coming from a guy who until 5 days ago, was named "capelfan52". :facepalm

Well said.

I'm very pleased with Osby. However, I expect him to be significantly better than he is right now at the end of the season. You can see the athletic ability and talent. To me, he seems like one of those players who likes to keep everyone involved and is too unselfish. I think he has the ability to physically dominate games, so I would like to see him take over opponents.

It's way too early to expect him to do that right now. Let's not forget, he just played in his 5th game after being out a year and a half from competitive basketball against other schools

I didn't really care for nor believe a lot of the hype for him last year. I think he's probably been a little better than I expected though. Based on what he did at Miss State I didn't see anyway he would just be a star like was being hyped.

So far he's been our best overall inside guy. And a solid defender and rebounder. So he's been a little better than expected.

Just read the entire thread and no one said they were disappointed or even remotely acted like it. Step down from the high horse.

Nobody should have bought into Capel talking up Ro, the guy averaged 4.1 and 2.6 at MSU, not exactly a powerhouse.

I'm pretty happy with how Ro has looked in all honesty, I was expecting less.

For me, Osby has been a nice surprise. Very athletic guy. I just wish we had a couple more like him in the 6' 10" range.

Capel was right about Osby. He was the best play on our roster last year...still is for that matter, if you don't count M'Baye.

I'm not the least bit disappointed in what I've seen of Romero. He has actually exceeded my expectations at this point of the season, and I think he will get better. After all, we're five games into the season, not on the downhill side of our schedule. He's one of those players this team cannot afford to lose. The SLU game was proof of that.

I'm very pleased with Osby. I try to ignore all hype about recruits and transfers, no matter who delivers it.

He showed a nice midrange game last night. I've really enjoyed watching him attack the glass on both ends. He and Mbaye are going to make a nice rebounding combo next year for us (Cam is a plus on the offensive glass as well).

Not as good as Capel made him out to be. Surprise! Surprise!! But all in all seems to be a very solid and consistent player.

I have been one of the ones really high on Roe and probably overhyped a bit, but I believed his averages at Miss St we not an accurate picture of how good he is/was. He was behind Jarvis Varnardo and Kodi Augustus. Not to mention MSU was loaded at his position with Varnardo, Augustus, Renardo Sidney, Elgin Bailey, John Riek and Taylor Luczak.

OU I think is going to be in a similar situation next season with Pledger, Newell, Hield, Hornbeak. And also with Osby M'baye, Henry, Neal and maybe Clark. Gonna have a lot of guys around the same height playing the same positions.

He was about what I expected.

I do believe he is going to improve as the year goes along. He hasn't played major game time minutes in over three years, it takes some time to get all the kinks out.

Sidney wasn't playing at that time.

Other than saying he was the best player on the team, what did Capel say to hype him?
