OSU Scandal

Pogi says "show me the mf'n tape". He's begging for SI to show the tape. This is gonna be awesome

Because Pogi is so stupid he thinks he needed to be told in advance he was being recorded and/or he needed to actually see the recording device.

Don't you think the editor ask to hear some of the tapes before he let the article be printed? Don't you think legal approved an article like this before it was printed? Don't you think legal listened to all of the tapes before it was printed?

I am going to believe SI before any former OSU player. These athletes have nothing to lose if they say no tape exists and one does. The reporters lose their jobs if they lied to the editor about tapes and they don't exist. Do you think it is easy to get a job at SI? Where do you work if you are disgraced for publishing a completely false story? These writers know defamation law. They know there trade. Those thinking this is all made up are basically going all in with a 2-6 off suit. Those cards could win but it is a horrible bet.

We won't know much for certain until we hear these tapes or the university admits to some kind of misconduct. Right now the OSU fans are saying, "Well, look here, Tatum Bell said that didnt happen... nothing to see here folks".

Just because Tatum Bell said it didnt happen, doesnt mean it didnt happen. Lance Armstrong said he didn't use performance enhancing substances, so did a lot of other professional athletes. They all deny until you can deny no more.

Take Head Coach Bud Kimball for example... he claims Lance Harbor never reported a knee injury to him, and was surprised to hear that he even had a knee injury... All right under the nose of a tight knit community in West Canaan, TX.

Yep.

There is no way in heck SI, and two professional journalists, including a Pulitzer Prize winner are going to make up a story like that. None.

Not just like that. They are about to release four more parts. Pogi, bell and Fields are not remotely going to stop that or embarrass anyone but themselves. These guys will have every I dotted and T crossed.

It is laughable that OSU's defense is a conspiracy between disgruntled former players, SI and OU.

I was discussing this with a friend of mine, who is a very loyal OSU fan. I said, "it seems nearly impossible to me that a national sports magazine is going to write a 5 part series based on years of research and not one thing is going to be true. That they are knowingly publishing a 5 part series of complete, bold-faced lies"... he seemed pretty convinced that not one thing they say is going to be true.

Uh oh. This poor guy is about to be torn to shreds by his "OSU Family" and media tomorrow.

I'm also wondering if the author of this story will be accused of being an OU grad and making up lies.

Former OSU Player Who Talked To Sports Illustrated Stands By His Story

Some of the players quoted in the five-part Sports Illustrated article on the Oklahoma State University football program have come out saying their words were twisted.

But there's one, who's standing by his story, and he spoke only to News On 6.

Fath' Carter said he was led to believe the interview was focusing on how Oklahoma State became successful, not on alleged corruption.

Now, Carter said he regrets even talking to the magazine, but said he's standing by his story.

"I was there from 2000 to 2004," Carter said.

He was just 18 when he left his hometown of El Reno on a full-ride football scholarship.

"I was recruited heavily and I chose Oklahoma State," Carter said.

Carter was recruited by head coach Bob Simmons, who left after Carter's freshman year. It was when Les Miles stepped in that Carter said the program began to change.

"The Miles era was a totally different vibe, it was definitely a winning aspect on the field," Carter said.

He said Miles was so focused on winning, that many of the players got a free pass when it came to academics.

"At that time, we just didn't ask questions," he said.

Carter said some of the better players didn't even have to show up for class, but still got the grades they needed to play. He said others were kept eligible through online classes or tutors completing their homework.

"I definitely received a couple grades that weren't merited, and that was the norm, too. Especially if you were at the top tier or you had considerable playing time. It was known," he said.

But Carter also said players were paid for how well they played. He said he was paid $100 once for blocking several punts. He said he was given another $100 for letting two top recruits live with him before they were allowed to under NCAA rules.

Carter said he still loves his alma mater, and had no intentions of bashing OSU.

"I know there's gonna be backlash, but I was asked a specific question and I gave the truth--no matter who likes it, it is the truth. And it's prevalent in college athletics, especially the big programs. It happens all the time," Carter said.

Carter said he would've liked to play for Mike Gundy, and said his experiences are only from the Les Miles era.

Carter said he hopes the Sports Illustrated article sheds light on many other college programs that he said are doing the same thing.

I think it's funny that Kelvin basically got brought down for things that are now legal. And is ripped all the time for it. OSU's football program during that same time was doing far worse apparently and the statute of limitations may keep them from getting much of a punishment.

My brother is an OSU alum and is saying the same things. My brother and your friends are dellusional. SI has nothing against OSU.

One question I have is who is Thayer Evans and why does everyone seem to know him in Oklahoma? Did he write for the Oklahoman or Tulsa World? Is it rational to think a guy tat made it big to SI would risk it all by defaming OSU simply because he went to OU?

I believe he was the Oklahoma beat writer for a time for the Oklahoman.

I remember Thayer Evans. He was a reporter for one of the OU fan boards sometime ago. I believe it was Scout.com, but can't be sure of that. Maybe that's why he is being called "an OU homer." The fact remains, SI appears to have plenty of evidence to support their claims of misconduct at OSU.

I agree with what you said earlier. A national publication like SI is not going to put their reputation on the line legally or ethically to make up stories that can't be substantiated.

Has Booger had a public response yet? He almost always has diarrhea of the mouth but I haven't heard a word from him yet!

he pretty much made a confession in my eyes.

Something like, that was ten years ago...lets focus on now

He supposedly wrote a piece about texas that had some lies in it.

Traber was quoting some tweets about him saying he hated osu and texas and called them choklahoma state

But then again, traber also kept saying all day that he went to OU. He never did

Pogi, and the others, aren't doing oSu any favors by squawking. They'd be better off to keep quiet and allow the whole story to come out. Then you can craft a reasoned response. Some of these guys are probably going to look pretty foolish for rushing out to make a statement on day 1.

I like how when OSU cheats the best that it gets them a 3rd place finish nationally. And when they cheat in academics they're still one of the worst APR BCS schools in the nation. Clearly not masterminds who have been running this whole thing.

The guy who investigated it may have had a agenda, but that does not make what the players say untrue. What I see is that there are plenty of players having similar stories. Not exactly the same but similar. Pogi says they misrepresented his statements but did not deny he said them.

I go back to what I told one of my OSU friends. This is a magazine article, they don't have to have legal proof ( or NCAA proof) but have to have multiple sources and/or physical proof. Look at politics. How many times to magazines, TV shows, and even newspapers run with stories based on sources. This is the same situation. Enough sources with similar stories. They all may not be true, but something seems to have gone on.

Pretty sure this article says it all.

DougG: Aso Pogi told (Sports Talk Network’s The Rush): “That was nothing I said. It was misrepresented, misquoted. It was taken completely out of context.” For Aso to come out now, and the other guys who have said they’ve been misquoted, how would you respond?

Dohrmann: All those people who say they’ve been misquoted, their conversations were recorded. I’ve heard them, editors here have heard them, lawyers here have heard them. We are absolutely comfortable that they were quoted accurately.

So how long before Gottlieb is blasted as an OU apologist?

In my opinion the poor graduation rates are very consistent with the story. They are recruiting kids that simply don't belong in college but are exceptional athletes. As a result, it is very difficult for those kids to graduate.
