This is very sad news. My thoughts and prays go out to the friends and family.

With basketball just starting and football going strong something like this just puts things in perspective.

I can't believe this happened again. Really sad.

R.I.P.

Really unbelievable.

I just can't even process this right now.

Just shocked beyond belief that something like this could happen again.

Horrible news, we should all keep them in our minds and prayers. I will be tough for while around there.

That's so sad. I seem to remember that one reason the OSU job was a good fit for him was it allowed him to be near his elderly parents in Kansas. And he has a wife an 3 kids of his own.

I know that statistically, cars are more dangerous, but small planes scare me to death.

I know what you mean.

I refuse to fly on anything smaller than one of those regional jets. No turboprops.

There's no way you could ever get me on board one of those small, 4-seat Cessna-type planes.

I know it may be too early, but did they say whether or not it was pilot error?

Investigators haven't yet had time to review the crash. I saw somewhere that it may take up to 9 months to determine the cause.

May GOD bless and comfort the entire OSU Family, and everyone affected by this tragedy.

Yeah, the NTSB will take at least that long.

But in these small plane crashes, it seems like pilot error is normally what happens like 90% of the time.

I dont mean this to sound insensitive at all, but Boone Pickens needs to buy the finest aircraft, pilots, and mechanics and donate them to OSU.

Horrible news! Hard to believe that a plane crash has tragically claimed the lives of more members of OSU's coaching staff.

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone associated with Coach Serna and Coach Budke, especially members of their families.

The thing is, yesterday afternoon was good conditions for a micro burst and if that was the case, doesn't matter the pilot or aircraft, it will take you down.

That's correct on the microburst. Took down a big plane at DFW back in the 80s, IIRC.

I cannot believe this has happened again to O-State. I just cannot deal with this.

I had a window seat on the third plane in line waiting to take off on that very runway when the Delta L1011 went down killing about 100 or so passengers. It was definitely a throat swallowing WTF moment.

Statement from Oklahoma women’s basketball head coach Sherri Coale on Oklahoma State tragedy:

"I am devastated by the tragic news of the deaths of Kurt and Miranda. Kurt was a fantastic basketball coach and he was a tremendous competitor. More importantly, though, he was a devoted father and husband, and a humble but courageous leader of young people.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to Kurt’s wife, Shelley, and their children, and to Miranda’s family, and the families of the other victims as well. Additionally, we are praying for the entire Oklahoma State women’s basketball family.”

I don't think it was an OSU plane. I do know that OSU completely changed their rules for traveling after the basketball thing 10 years ago.

For one thing, I believe all official transportation for the various teams is done through a charter service, rather than university planes with their own pilots.

What I wondering --- is it normal for coaches to be taking small planes on recruiting trips one state over?

Seems like that would be a "road trip" type thing.

But either way, as was pointed out, traveling by car is still far more dangerous.
