Last week it was Austin Box now it's former Sooner All American Brandon Everage that may have passed. Apparently he fell off a boat and never turned back up in Granger Lake in Texas.

Saw this earlier. Prayers for his family/friends. I remember when he played 1/2 of a season with a busted shoulder. The guy loved being a Sooner. Some say he ruined his NFL chances playing with the bad shoulder. He never seemed to recover. Dude would lay the wood to anyone caught in his zone.

RIP B E.....

Corrections because at the time there was little info on it. Apparently he was in a river and either swimming or rafting. Can't find out which one. But people actually saw him go under and his body didn't turn up till around 11 am this morning.

I will keep Brandon's family and friends in my prayers...it's always tragic for family to lose someone so young.

My favorite memory of Brandon was his incredible game against Air Force in 2001. I don't remember whether it was the Air Force head coach or offensive coordinator - but one of them went to the OU locker room after the game. It wasn't to single out Roy Williams or Rocky Calmus, but to tell Brandon Everage that he ruined their offensive game plan.

It is a tragedy to lose so many at such young ages.
Prayers for comfort for their families.

Drowning in a river on Memorial day weekend. The phone call every parent dreads. Makes me nervous with my college age daughter at Lake Havasu with friends.

I don't know about others but it has just taken me a while to sit back and think about this. It's not that I did not care I just wanted to take some time and spend with my kids. It will be a while yet before they are out on their own and stuff like this just makes me thank the Lord it was not mine. Our oldest (10 yo) will be going off to summer camp for a week without us for the first time. This just makes me want to reconsider but we have to let them out of our site from time to time. I hope we as Sooners can offer some comfort to his parents.

Very tragic.

It's seems there may have been one or two other ex-Sooners who died in river or lake mishaps.

Pray for the Everages and be careful when on the water.

+1

I will also add I was waiting to hear something more official than Nicks initial post which I saw yesterday right after he posted. I guess I was hoping it was not true and Brandon had washed up ashore and was conscious.

Since that's not going to happen I will be praying for his family. Kids are supposed to outlive their parents. I can't imagine anything more painful in life.

To say this is terrible news is obviously an understatement. He was definitely one of my favorite players of the Stoops Era... Not only because of his fearless mentality on the field, but he was seemingly the first player to congratulate a teammate whenever they made a play on the field.

I read that as soon as Derrick Strait found out Everage had passed, he booked a flight as soon as he could down to Texas. Thought that spoke volumes to the type of friend Everage was.

It was the offensive coordinator. Here's a great article from Jake Trotter that reflects back on that game.

Prayers to his family. Between him and Box I'm just at a loss for words.

this is just so sad. he was definitely one of my favorite players from the Stoops era. we need more players like him nowadays. he was totally selfless, overachieved and loved being a Sooner.

i had a class with him and he was a nice guy.

Terrible news. It makes you realize how lucky you are to not get hurt or killed. Sometimes we take life for granted and it can end instantly.

How many times did each of us have a few drinks on a lake and not get injured? (I have read nothing to suggest he was drinking and simply made that assumption - I am not judging him if he were drinking on the lake, almost all of us do it).

Swimming in rivers and lakes is much more dangerous than a lot of people realize.

I was very sorry to hear this news. I have very fond memories of Brandon as a player, and his family and close friends will be in my thoughts and prayers.
