Any of the guys we were once in on signed yet today...Lamb, Ziegler, McCallum??

:ed

From everything discussed on this board, no big surprise. Bet jessiew is heartbroken.

Ziegler is also signing with his dad who is the head coach at Central Michigan.

When is Oregon going to come after Scott DFW?

Crazy story about Ray....I was in Vegas about 5 or 6 years ago and got suckered into listening a spill on why I should by a timeshare or condo. The guy who showed me around was a fairly tall African American gentleman. Well through all the small talk while walking around he found out I was a basketball fan and that I was from Oklahoma. Cant remember the guys name..But he said he played at Indiana University under Bobby Knight and was a prominent player. He was also tooting the horn of his son who would have been around 12 or 13 at the time. But he also was talking about Ray McCallum's son whom his son had played against in the summers and he said that Ray Jr was no joke and was probably one of the best point guards he had seen on the summer circuit at that time.

Brandon Knight has announced to Kentucky, he was the first domino.

So when does Jones commit to Kentucky..... Man, Calipari is a slime ball.

May as well look at that remaining top 20 rivals list and whoever is undeclared give em a 75% chance of signing with dirty Cal.

Jones said either the 23rd or 30th I think.

Kentucky is also supposed to get a committ from the top junior Michael Gilchrist later today.....C.J. Leslie said he wants to play with Brandon Knight...

How about this. Cal gets inundated with like 5 of the top 10 changing to UK so they dont have room for Jones even if they cut schollies on kids already on the team. Then Jones is forced to pick between us and Washing... oh wait ok.

Kanter also officially signed. How many spots do they have? 5?

I have no doubt Cal can get as many scholarships as he needs, somehow, someway.

I believe they have 3 commits so far, so in theory they have 5 spots left, but who knows.

They lost 3 seniors and the 5 underclassmen, so they will have room for Jones if he decides to go there.

they have come after him twice along with some other schools. He is staying at Baylor. Drew may flirt with some jobs as negotiating leverage. But Drew and Baylor aren't stupid. They know they have a great match here.

Baylor has structured a lucrative contract for him with a massive buyout. Very few coaches leave big six conference jobs (Big12, Pac10, ACC, Big East, Big10, SEC) where they have things rolling. Self did- Illinois to Kansas. Gillespie did and it turned out to be a disaster- A&M to UK. Calipari did- but he had issues coming at Memphis. Roy Williams did- KU to UNC. Howland- Pitt to UCLA. Huggins- KSt to West Virginia. Two of those situations involved returning to their alma mater- Huggins/Williams.

You always have lateral moves when success has not been obtained- Bzedelik. Or to stay one step ahead of the wolves- Purnell from Clemson to DePaul.

But apart from those examples, most of the hiring is from up and comers in the mid major arena; ex NBA guys or top assistants at successful programs. Too much risk in going from a Baylor to Oregon.

Baylor is fortunate to have a group of about five very wealthy men who love Drew and basketball that can endow a pool of funds for basketball to keep Drew and staff happy long term- Drayton McLane (owns Astros); Mark Hurd (CEO of Hewlett Packard); Bob Simpson (CEO of Cross Timbers); John Eddie Williams (his law firm received 19% of the $2.3 billion tobacco settlement a few years back); and Jim Turner (CEO of Dr Pepper bottling/former player).

Baylor will always have some disadvantages due to the size of the school. But that is a much larger disadvantage in football than it is in basketball. Drew likes Baylor and Waco and thinks he can compete for national championships there. More importantly, his wife really loves the school and town.
