I may have asked this before (I meant to, but I can't recall if I did or not), but why all the major love for UNC? They had a fairly equivalent season to ours last year.

Will take. Great chance to get back to number 1!

I don't really get it either ... I think I would put Maryland at #1

I'd take ou vs ku, unc, and Iowa state on a neutral court tomorrow.

UNC Returns every player, good freshmen, and a healthy Marcus Paige (oft injured last year) Sweet 16 last year.

And OU returns every player but Thomas (no one voting in this poll considered Bennett's departure in deciding where we should be ranked) plus good freshmen and McNease, Buford and AK to make up for Thomas' contributions. And we also went to the Sweet 16.

I'm not knocking UNC and I'm not saying we should be ranked #1, but it seems a somewhat random preseason coronation for the Tarheels.

JP Tokoto declared for the draft when he shouldn't have for UNC. Preseason polls are what they are college bball.

Can't even imagine being ranked #1...I dunno if my heart could take it playing as the #1 team...ok ok...gotta stop thinking a bout that even being a possibility.

They just have a lot of talent returning with more experience. Marcus Paige is one of the best PG in the country, Justin Jackson had a great freshman season and expects to make a jump.

I would put Maryland #1 as well btw.

I'm perfectly fine starting off the season at #8. I'm looking forward to seeing them in action on Friday night.

We have 4 tough pre-conference games in @Memphis, #11 Villanova (neutral court in Hawaii), #17 Wisconsin, and BYU (likely final game of Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii). Then we have the SEC Challenge game in Baton Rouge on Jan 30 against #21 LSU with Ben Simmons who may be the best player the Sooners face all year.

Ben Simmons, freshman forward, LSU:
My highest-ranked freshman, and for good reason. It’s an utterly unfair comparison to make, but Simmons – who plays a hybrid point forward-type position – is the closest thing college basketball has seen to a LeBron James in a long time. If I were a struggling NBA team, this would be the guy I would tank for.

My bad about Tokoto...

Guys we arent the preseason #1 team its ok... I think we'll have a chance to be in the final 4 with good health.

I don't believe the debate is that WE should be number 1, it's understanding the love and hype behind UNC and why THEY are #1.

Yep, that's all I was asking. And I'm not riled up about it; I just think it's a little odd.

I'm fine with #8 -- more than fine with it.

Happened many weeks when I was a student As it turns out it has no impact on the fans All we had to do was show up and scream

Tokoto's rights were acquired by the Thunder, just so you know.

Will probably play for the Blue this year
