OU announces Booker signing

I have a feeling the people who don't think Cousins will develop into a consistent scorer will be eating crow. If the staff works on his fundamentals enough, and he is able to add steadiness to his aggressive athleticism, the conference will be in trouble.

I agree.

I did not realize that Stephen Curry was not a "Top-150" recruit.

what is crazy is that even after steph "went off" as a frosh his brother was still not recruited even though they put up the same high school numbers ..

all his brother did was average 20+ as a frosh then transfer and evidently start for duke

Stephen Curry is a sick man! Im not comparing him to the Curry's at all. But if he is 1/4 as good as any of them, he'll be just fine at OU...

This kid has a shooters chance --

His knock out of HS is level of competition..,

However the rumor is he looks really good, even dominant when playing top flight guys ..

I believe we just got a steal ...

What I don't get about OU fans is they seem to be very pessimistic towards OU recruits while optimistic about the recruits at other schools. Outside of KU and few can't miss guys, Booker seems to be consistent with the other kids playing in the Big XII. I am hoping he is an asset to the team and I look forward to watching him play basketball.

I think some fans just look at the number of stars assigned to a recruit. I think what is more important is to look at who is recruiting that player. If you don't see any good teams showing an interest, there could be a reason. Doesn't mean he can't be a good player, just says other coaches have doubts about him.

I agree. I dont see how someone can watch video of him and think that he is not going to help this team.

Did Booker not play AAU ball? I haven't heard anything about it if he has. This would also contribute to his not being recruited by a lot of schools, especially being a small school kid.

I love signing Booker. If ever there were potential for a diamond in the rough, Booker is it. It's not everyday you see a shooter like that in any class of high school ball. However his career turns out at OU I'm glad we signed him.

Let's sum this up:

Some moron on a message board thinks Booker can't play, but the coach that's led five different teams to the tournament thinks he can.

You pick your side.

Lawrence McKenzie. Michael Neal. Steven Pledger.

If Booker can play even a LICK of defense, he'll wind up a more well-rounded player than these recent examples, each of whom played significant minutes on tournament teams. Not to disparage any of the above -- but each was at his best when not the focal point on offense. Versatility is great, but sometimes all a good team needs to go over the top is a guy who catches fire from three and could put it in from the parking lot. I have faith that Frank Booker has at least that tool. Anything else, and Lon is playing on house money.

Yes, the kid no other school worth a damn recruited hard will be Lon's savior. Keep signing mediocre talent Lon, you locked up Booker so all is well.

Remember this guy? Lightly recruited. Became a star in college and now is a star in the NBA. Booker has a very similar shooting touch and game. His coach agrees. Not highly recruited either. I think we got a huge steal.

Stephen Curry

Stephen and Seth Curry have to be the oddest recruiting situation I can think of.

Their dad was in the NBA, they are both absolute studs, and yet neither of them could even get a look from a big program out of high school? And Seth couldn't after Stephen proved himself in college? Just very weird.

Pretty much sums it up

I don't get the lack of excitement about Booker? Is he destined to be the new Austin Johnson and Steven Pledger, or will some of you guys give him a fair chance before drawing any conclusions?

I, for one, am absolutely thrilled that OU signed Frank Booker in the late period! I'm not saying he will be the next Stephen Curry, just that he has the reputation for being a great three point shooter.

Allow me to tell you why I'm excited. With our best shooter no longer around next year, we needed a three point shooter in the worst way. Our coaches signed a kid who is said to be a threat to score as soon as the crosses the mid-court line. I don't care what class Westside is in, any player who averages 4 treys per game is a darned good shooter in my book.

Don't forget that Rotnei Clarke and Keiton Page didn't attract the attention of the so-called elite programs coming out of high schools either. But I'd dare say there aren't many OU fans out there, at least those who will be honest with themselves, who wouldn't have given their eye teeth for four years of a three point shooter like them?

Booker also averaged 8 rebounds and better than 4 assists per game. So, it's not like the only thing he can do is shoot from behind the arc. Even if it is, college teams that can't score from the outside don't fair too well these days. I'm hoping against hope that he is not the only player on the team who can shoot threes. If he is, defenses will key on him just like they did against Pledger. But I'm darned sure glad we'll have at least one player who is known for making perimeter shots.

Some people will never be excited about any player that doesn't have the potential of Hollis Price or Blake Griffin.

Nevermind the fact that OU won A LOT of games with shooters starting, or being the first guard off the bench, that couldn't do much but shoot. Guys like Neal, Newton, and Heskett.

If Booker really is a sleeper and has additional skills or athleticism outside of his shooting, look out. We may have a kid that can compete for first or second team all conference as an upperclassman.
