OU announces Booker signing

I completely agree with Ada. We should be excited about Booker. You don't often get guys like him in the late signing period.

Some people will never be excited about any player that doesn't have the potential of Hollis Price or Blake Griffin.

Nevermind the fact that OU won A LOT of games with shooters starting, or being the first guard off the bench, that couldn't do much but shoot. Guys like Neal, Newton, and Heskett.

If Booker really is a sleeper and has additional skills or athleticism outside of his shooting, look out. We may have a kid that can compete for first or second team all conference as an upperclassman.

Exactly! Oh, some will say that he's not a great athlete or that he was able to make 99 three pointers last year due to the competition. Unless the three point line in Georgia is different than everywhere else, I'm not buying.

Our problem last year and in years past is that we didn't have players who could make open shots. The shots were there. We just didn't have enough players who could knock them down when it counted the most.

Comparing Booker to Steph Curry is insane. Everybody knows that Curry weighed about 140 lbs, had a slew of offers including Va Tech, but chose Davidson early. Everybody knows Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Kansas, even OU, don't sign 140 lb players.

Booker is a 6'4" 190 lb known quantity. Everybody passed on him and we picked him up late to fill a spot. He might end up being a great player. But the odds are clearly not with him.

Norm, there is a world of separation between giving a kid a chance and comparing him to Steph Curry, who dropped 30 and 13 last night to hand Denver their 1st home loss since January while being called the best shooter in the world by none other than Reggie Miller.

I'm most excited about Woodard. He was ranked with right Buddy Hield at his position before slipping a little due to being injured his senior season. Adjusted his game and still won state while playing injured. He was our first and most important recruit and we got him early.

Saying unlikely is not saying nay. Setting unrealistic expectations for Booker is just setting the kid up to fail.

If Booker ends up being a major contributor it will be because he worked his tail off and raised the level of his game and he should be given credit for doing so.

Expecting him to be a major contributor is unwise and unfair.

And Hollis probably didn't tip the scales at much over 140lbs when he got to OU.

Suanders plays football at OU and is listed at 160 lbs. To me that means he probably weighs less than that but the kid can play football.

Your question is backwards. The high rated guy most often can play at the D-1 level and the low rated kid most often does not help you win ballgames.

It works both ways. Some highly rated kids can't play well and some low rated players can play very well.

Tell ya what, if he contributes for just say 2 years while at OU, you come back and admit you were wrong. If he doesn't contribute for at least 2 years, I'll do the same.

I must have missed the Stephen Curry comparison. You certainly didn't read anything like that in my posts. I even qualified what I said about his perimeter shooting to make sure no one thought I was comparing him to Curry. I did read one post that pointed to the fact that the Curry brothers were not highly recruited out of high school. But that's not even close to what you claim someone said.

Personally, I couldn't care less if the top programs weren't beating down the Booker door to sign Frank. The majority of big name schools had already used a full allotment of scholarships in the 2013 class. It's true that he was not heavily recruited last fall. That's why he decided to work on his game and wait until the late signing period.

Personally, I think OU was very fortunate to get in on this kid and ink him to an LOI. As I said before, he's exactly what we needed to fill the void left by Pledger.

It was Booker's high school coach who compared Booker's shooting ability to Curry.

Certainly his highlight videos show a remarkable range but we should probably recognize highlight videos as the best they have done. Having said that I like his quick moves to get open for shots under the hoop as well as behind the arc.

All you have to do is remember all the relatively unknowns that filled up the hoop in this years NCAA tournament.

I think he will be better than Pledger.

He doesn't have to remind anyone of Curry. If he just reminds us of Rotnei Clarke or Keiton Page we will be extremely happy he's a Sooner.

That's funny & a great comparison. Putting and shooting a basketball are all about a confident smooth stroke. When you think the ball is going in more often than not it does. And visa-versa.

Fortunately the putting stroke is on fire right now. But history says that just means a slump is right around the corner!!

This is why I am excited about Booker, and why I think he will still shoot well at the next level.

A read an article a while back, and Booker talked about going from thinking his shots were going in to KNOWING his shots were going in.

He can shoot. The question is whether he will have the confidence to succeed at the next level. Judging by his attitude and the things that I have read, I think he will.

Confidence was Pledger's biggest issue. He has a smooth stroke, but he never shot the ball with confidence over a prolonged stretch.
