I predict 6,200 cheeks in the seats.

I thought we would have more tonight.

I will hope we pull solid attendance for the game. We'll need it. With no football and it being an afternoon game pull should come out for the game.

It's a weekend game. I have to cut people slack for not showing up on Thursday night. But Saturday? I expect an awesome crowd :)

The fans that were there, including myself, were very much engaged in the game. More fans will come watch this team play because unlike the last few years we actually play good basketball. We play good D and actually know what we are doing offensively. Grooms is my favorite player on this team. He is a huge upgrade over Blair at the point. I know it has been discussed many times on this board but our student attendance is embarrassing. I love the students down on the floor with the chants and getting the crowd going but from a sheer numbers standpoint, embarrassing. My dad and I reminsced back when I was at OU and we played Arkansas and the place was packed and our student attendance was unbelievable. We had like two full sections that went from the bottom all the way to the top of the LNC. Where are the students?

IDEA ALERT;

The university needs to call ticket holders with the great seats in front of the camera to see if they're coming to the game? If they KNOW they're not going to come - then GIVE those tickets away to students or someone who WILL COME. Easy way to fill up those seats and get more people to the games. The seats been paid for already anyway.

They could also set up a priority system where they have people in standby waiting for those seats to open up.

The student section was pretty poor, but it is the weekend before finals.

So? That just means there are a TON of them on campus. You can't study 24/7. You got to have a break!

I just don't get it. They try and try and the students show less and less. It has me completely befuddled. I can't imagine how fed up the Athletic Department has to be with them.

I'll tell you this: I am friends with a few students and recently graduated former students who all tell me that the athletic department and OUPD has really cracked down on alcohol, language, etc., which has turned off some of the regular rowdies who show up.

Now, I'm not one to condone such behavior, but I will say that when I was in school, had I gotten kicked out for being drunk or dropping an f-bomb, I would have never been at a game because they would have been kicking me out of every game.

As much as the athletic department "tries", they kill themselves with some of their policies and rules, too.

I totally agree with you 04. I was at OU basketball games throughout college regardless of finals. But I know not every student feels the same way as you and I.

It's very sad to see so many empty seats in the student section, especially on a Saturday afternoon.

It's really pretty crazy how pathetic the students are this year. When I was an undergrad (2000-2004), my friends and I would get to games at least an hour early to get the best student seats. Now you can walk in and sit on the front row after the tip. They're pathetic.

In all fairness, the students have been horrible for football the past couple of years as well.

THIS!!! There is so much truth to this. The students have been terrible in football and basketball for at least a couple years now. Pretty embarrassing. Might be time to cut their allotment, as crazy as that sounds.

It's just like that and it's awful. I show up about 15 minutes early to the game and walk down the front row. I encourage other students to go. They always seem to have an excuse. It's even difficult for me to give away my ticket to a game if I can't go for whatever reason.

I can't even get students to talk about OU basketball. They don't watch the games or read about them. Hearing that Newell transferred meant nothing to them because they had no idea who he was... Sorry, had to vent.

It takes literally five clicks of the mouse for a season ticket holder to transfer game tickets for free. The AD shouldn't have to hold people's hand 24/7.

Maybe those students would show up for free sh!t. Pizza Hut can give their overprices LNC pizzas away while the rest of you guys subsidize em ;)

Location and pricing are not the reasons for students not showing up for basketball. But football definitely needs some adjustment. I sit in the west side upper deck and get to stare at the empty seats at the beginning of games and watch 2/3 of the section leave at halftime.
