OU Baseball (2017 Season)

That was a very ugly stretch they went through for several weeks, but hopefully this past weekend's series win has begun to right the ship. With K-State, TCU, and OSU left, they "should be favored" in two of those series.....but who knows. I'm back to not trusting this team until proven otherwise.

There was talk of the Big12 getting 7 teams into regionals. It looks more like 5 now.

OsU's pitching staff has been decimated due to injuries. If we could manage a sweep of them it may just keep them out of the Big12 tournament and well that's never a bad thing.

I think the Big 12 gets at least 6. Even teams (Texas, Baylor) in the bottom half of the conference who have losing conference records still have tremendous RPIs (Baylor-15, Texas-22) and would easily be in the field if it were announced today. Hell, even after our bad stretch, it isn't inconceivable for us to actually host a regional if we can finish the season strong. Taking 2/3 from TCU this week would go a long way in helping our cause at a chance at hosting.

(May 13, 2017) Saturday’s Game – Never Give Up
http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=155564

OU trailed 5th Ranked TCU 4-0 after 5 innings. The Sooners rallied, but TCU scored some more, and TCU led 8-6 going into the bottom of the 9th inning.

With two runners on base and two outs in the bottom of the 9th, senior catcher Renae Martinez hit a 3-Run Walk-Off Home Run, and the Sooners beat 5th ranked TCU, 9-8.

J.B. Olson faced one batter in the top of the 9th and earned the win. After TCU scored a run in the top of the 9th to increase their lead to 8-6, J.B. Olson was brought in from the bullpen with two outs and a runner on 3rd base. Olson got the strike out to set up the heroics by Renae Martinez.

Big win! On to Sunday’s game.

Sunday (May 14, 2017) ... Sooners "Walk Off" in the Bottom of the 9th; Again

OU takes 2 of 3 games in this weekend series in Norman over #5 ranked TCU. With Sunday's game tied 9-9 going into the bottom of the 9th, TCU had their pitcher with the team's lowest ERA in the game (Sean Wymer, 1.73 ERA).

Bottom of the 9th - OU Batting
1. Right-Fielder Ben Hollas doubled to left center
1(a) Kyler Murray pinch ran for Ben Hollas
2. Catcher Renae Martinez laid down a sacrifice bunt; Kyler Murray advance to 3rd (1 Out)
3. Center Fielder Steele Walker was intentionally walked (set up possible double play)
4. First baseman Austin O'Brien singled to left center; Kyler Murray scored

Team Leaders in Sunday's Game (10-9 Win)
> RF / Senior Ben Hollis .. 3 Hits; 2 RBIs; 2 Doubles; 1 Run
> 1B / Senior Austin O'Brien .. 3 Hits; 5 RBIs; 1 Home Run; 2 Runs
> 3B / Sophomore Brylie Ware .. 3 Hits; 3 RBIs; 2 Home Runs; 1 Double; 2 Runs

For the second game in a row, senior JB Olson gets the win in relief. Today, he pitched the 8th and 9th innings and faced the minimum (6 batters). He was aided by a big 6-4-3 double-play in the 9th inning.

It is wonderful to see the seniors come through in a big way this weekend. It was their last series in Norman, as today was Senior Day. Winning this series against TCU can go a long way in earning the Sooners a spot in the NCAA Tournament. After today's win, OU jumped up 3 spots to #17 in the RPI.

Bedlam Baseball – BEAT OSU!!

OU is the Home Team this year.

Thu, May 18 .... Tulsa, Okla. (7:05 p.m.)
Fri, May 19 ...... Oklahoma City (7:05 p.m.)
Sat, May 20 ..... Oklahoma City (7:05 p.m.)

OSU (24-24; 6-14) is currently ranked #66 in the RPI. Sadly, beating them will not help much in the RPI, but a loss or two could have a big negative attached to it.

Bedlam baseball is always tough, no matter the records. Last year (2016) OSU had a team that went to the College World Series in Omaha, yet OU won 2 out of 3 in Bedlam.

Bullpen.

(spit)

We were 27-0 when leading after 7 innings heading into the series. It was bound to happen. A couple of other streaks that are pretty impressive. We are 11-0 on Sundays and haven't lost a rubber game in the Big12 in a couple of years.

If they win the series against osu (2-1 or better), it looks like they will definitely be hosting. TCU and Tech will both host as well. Baylor, West Virginia, and Texas are solidly in the tournament as of now while KU is a bubble team. Big 12 (like basketball) has been a meat-grinder this year.

so down 2-5 in b5, I think it's suspended...game 1. So much for moving series up for rest.

Dang women's team down 0-2 bottom of 1. PP gave up a 2 run homer after a BB.

C'mon Sooners...not a good start on the diamond for either.

Just seems like it comes in sheets...either win or lose.:facepalm
