OU basketball marketing continues to be "meh"

Most students aren't going to connect with anything more than a few years ago...the 2002 Final Four team is such an after thought in their minds. This is an event to celebrate OU's program (for those who remember) and get some money in the door. Why not Blake Griffin a cornerstone of the flyer? Because you are basically downplaying all the other players who will be in attendance, last time I checked BG didn't make a Final Four...Hollis, Quannas and Ace did.

Furthermore, trying to get the students jacked for basketball when we are a week away from the first kick-off isn't probably the best time to go about it. Wait until football gets in a groove, students have been on campus a while and then make a bball push. A basketball drive for the students in late August is going to fall on many deaf ears given the program's pitiful performance the past couple years.

In the end though, if you want attendance (student, alumni, whatever) just win. There is only so much you can do to attract people to your venue if your team is one of the worst in high major D-I. Until that trend is bucked, you're fighting an uphill battle.

I agree with the statement above 100%...you cant make the flyer all about blake because other players would take it as a slap in the face...we have to figure out another way to get fans involved...this should be about showing respect to our basketball tradition, not about blake.

I think that just getting so many previous players back is going to get the students & fans extremely excited!!Kruger has already talked with the student councils,Fraternities,& Sororities about the upcoming season,There is only one thing left to do"just win baby"!!Go Sooners!!!!

Tony = mean

Big Old Booger knows I love him.

But he and WTSooner wondering why people focus on the negative is about as ironic as, well, thebigabd wondering why people focus on the negative.

I am as positive as they come... I'm just not delusional.

Notice how everything I said about Capel is now justified, and Joe Castiglione and David Boren obviously saw things the way I did.

I was a sunshine pumper under Sampson. The program stunk under Capel and my posting reflected that.

I'm just teasing you, thebigabd.

Sam's critique was very specific and pretty measured I thought (headline to this thread aside maybe). Is he right or wrong?

There is a difference in being negative about a coach when he has proven himself to not be a very good coach.....and being negative about the current state of OU basketball with all LK has done, and before he has even coached a game.

But carry on.

Of course there is, no one is being negative about the current state of OU basketball. Not in this thread anyway.

FWIW I almost always completely agreed with you guys about Capel, you know that. My default position is generally to foster more discussion, not shut it down.

Who is being negative about the current state of OU basketball?

Hahahaha

Big Old Booger imploring people to focus on the positive

Yes, that does sorta tickle the old irony strings a little, doesn't it, Tony!
