Capel said OU is going to sign more than one, which leads me to believe they will sign 2-3. I don't know what that means for current players on roster, but OU needs some experience and upgrades in the backcourt in my opinion.

With last year being awful, and this year possibly being bad, I think he should make an early run at some good juco players and try to sign them early instead of holding out for the bigger names. Big surprise, eh? These two guys would provide a shooter and a slasher, both filling needs. These would be two guys too look at if going to the juco route.

Next years guards are going to be Carl Blair, TJ Taylor, and Steven Pledger.

Tyrus Mcgee (6'2'' 185)

Jayhawk East Freshman of the Year, averaged a team-best 16.6 points and 5.3 rebounds at Cowley. First-Team All-Region VI selection.

The 6-foot-2 freshman was second on the team in field goal percentage (50 percent), and first in free-throw percentage (82.1 percent). He led the team in three pointers made (80), while shooting a team-best 44 percent behind the arc.

He played his best basketball down the stretch. Over the last nine games, McGee averaged 22.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, and shot 57 percent (34-of-60) from three-point range.

Joe Mitchell (6'1'')

Jayhawk West Freshman of the Year. Hutchinson's leading scorer at 15.8 points a game. He also averages 5.1 rebounds a game, and his 80 assists led the Blue Dragons. Scored a career-high 32 points and posted his third career double-double to power the 11th-ranked Hutchinson Community College men’s basketball team into the Region VI semifinals for the first time since 2004.

I guess you are just assuming that Newell isn't going to qualify?

Is this the same guy?

If it is I really like his game...very physically and could be the scrappy player we really need

I think we need a big physical post player more than we do guards. Depending on how the PG situation works out this year I think you try to sign 2 posts or a post and a PG. assuming we have 2 schollys available. If only one gotta go with post help. But that could all change throughout the season.

In picking-up-the-gals-at-a-bar terminology it seems you are suggesting we "go ugly early."

That depends largely on the development of Fitz, Washington, Thompson, Osby, Ahmed and even Hardrick.

Right... 5 post players already on scholarship. Possibly just 3 guards.

Haha, kind of. You go after these guys early to ensure you are getting quality players instead of striking out on the big names after your team wins 12-15 games.

Yes, I made that assumption. Capel's comments about how many OU will sign led me to that assumption.

Is McGee from Stringtown? Didn't he commit to Tulsa out of HS? I heard he was way off as far as qualifying out of HS. Wonder how he will improve on that

Fitz, Washington & Hardrick are 4's. Osby and Thompson are 3-4 Hybrids that will probably see most of their time outside of the paint imo. And I think Ahmed is a 5, but is a project at this point.

I think with Bird, TJ, Cam, Blair & assuming Newell, with one available scholly you try to get a 5 man. Osby and Thompson will provide additional guard depth. If 2 are available for some reason then shoot for a 5 and a 1-2 guard.

Yes, he is from Stringtown. No, he didnt commit to Tulsa out of HS.

He wanted to go to Tulsa out of high school, but there was no way he was going to qualify. He will probably have pretty good interest coming out of junior college. He is a solid athlete and a great 3pt shooter. He would be a good sign for a high major.

No, that's not the Joe Mitchell from Hutch Juco. Joe is a 6'2 or so combo guard. Big time scorer. He can go.

You seem to be familiar with him. Would OU do well signing guys like Joe Mitchell and Tyrus Mcgee for next years team?

I think a big guy is their target. I doubt they'll sign any combo guards unless Newell and Blair are busts. Would be hard to see them bring in a pg who's a junior along with another junior pg, and a sophomore pg. The only guard that has come up in recruiting has been Bello. They're not even recruiting Josh Richardson.

+1, looking at the roster spots this makes the most sense to me.

Jeff Capel is probably going to have Anthony Norris and Jarion Henry higher on is list than those guys.
