OU-OSU Game Thread

Well, I am almost too stunned to know what to say...so

1. We won.
2. Thank God for Kaylon or we would have lost by 20.

Other than that...

The first half was the worst display of basketball at any level I have ever witnessed in my life.

19% shooting in the first half?! My God.

I taped the game and went to watch my 5-year-old granddaughter's team play basketball tonight. They shot better than OU and OSU combined in the first half.

A bunch of wheelchair-bound pygmies who were blind could have shot the ball better and outplayed us in the first half. WTH???!!!!!

We were out rebounded in the first half 30-15. We never had, it seemed, more than one person on the boards EVER.

Except for Kay-Kay, really the second half was no better.

We finished the season 2-2. We just as easily could have been 1-3 or 0-4.

This team finished the regular season just as it played the entire pre-season and non-conference schedule -- about as badly as they could play it.

I don't know what the heck is wrong with this bunch of girls right now, but they better get it fixed by a week from Thursday or we will have 2 games left to play. One in the Big12-2 tournament and MAYBE one in the NCAA tournament.

There is absolutely no excuse for this level of team-wide performance.

Sherri basically started Maddie tonight in all but reality. And what in the Sam Hill was that little shake thing Maddie did after she fouled out as she walked down the bench? She almost started to cry and I thought she was about to have a breakdown or something.

This team is a mess --- but not as pathetic as last year's squad. I hope we can pull it together.

Man, it was like everyone one of them were hung over or on LSD tonight.

It was a poor offensive showing, but pretty good defensively played first half. We held OSU to 20 points and under 18% shooting. That will win games if you improve some, doesn't have to be a lot, offensively. And we did just what we are supposed to do when your offense stinks, and you forget how to rebound. Play hard-nosed defense, and find a way to win.
At OSU
On senior night
With a lot of underclassmen
OUR ladies did not quit, played hard and won, so enjoy.

Who thought, when the Big 12 season started, that they would finish 13-5 and second place in the conference? I thought they had a good season and our fans should be excited for next season.

Glad for the win but, and it's a big but, as well as the team played against Baylor, they've played just as bad the last two games.

I don't know where to place the blame....but it seems that some of our younger players have reverted back to their non-conference games.

Gabbi needs to slow the team down on offense and work the ball. The inside was available all game long....it just seemed that during the first half, whoever had a lane to the bucket just took it and threw up a shot. Not smart, and no rebounding.:facepalm

Peyton might need to help Gabbi when she's struggling.

I hope they can get back to form for the tournament.:dance005:

I, for one, am going to enjoy a second Bedlam sweep this year.

During basketball season, my motto is always, "Piss off the OKC media - sweep Bedlam (both teams) so their knee-jerk reaction to favor the Pokes and Pokettes is nullified."

It's a long, long season....sometimes young playes hit the wall.

I think that's what has happened the last week.

I think Maddie's action was in response to the "left-right, left-right … SIT DOWN!" chant crowd do when a player walks to the bench after fouling out. Not certain, but it looked like she was quickly chopping her steps to screw up the chant.

Earlier this season after fouling out on the road, Ryan Spangler got that chant and walked to the bench … but stood until the opponent's free throw shooter was in his shot release, then he sat down. Kinda cagey.

And you're right, we've gotta play much better basketball and it has to start now … no more dress rehearsals - it's showtime.

Did anyone really expect anything more than going to Stillwater and winning by 10? This is not a final four team. We've known that for how long? Some of you people have this crazy football mentality that you are supposed to play great every single game and if you don't the sky is falling.

Well come on, Delta.

I went outside a few days ago and SOMETHING (it looked sort of white) was hitting me on the head.

In fact, Delta, I predicted we'd lose. But don't give me that we won by 10 lame stuff. We won only because OSU was worse than we were.

Did our defense have something to do with that in the second half. To a minimal degree. They were just worse shooting the ball than we were and we finally got lucky on some baskets and because Kay-Kay finally got going in the post.

In the first half, KK was double-teamed every time she got the ball. She had 2 points. In the second half, she was seldom double-teamed and she scored 18. Now unless you believe that OSU is so stupid that they'd say "Hey, we held them to 19 points in the first half, and KK to 2, so let's change defenses and not double-team her!", then we must have changed something offensively to keep them from double-teaming. Sometimes I think this game is a little more nuanced than most of us amateurs can understand.

Tango, it isn't complicated at all. If the center is double-teamed, they should quickly go outside to the open man. If the center draws single coverage, try to score. That's what the inside/outside game that rocjunkie talks about all the time is all about.

How much of the switch in defense was the result of early baskets by Carter and Peyton? Didn't Gioya hit about five points, and Peyton hit about two threes in a rather short span of time? It wasn't just that Kay Kay became more active. We had some other people begin to take some pressure off by drawing more attention to themselves.

Double-teaming of Kay Kay does slow us down since we seem determined to go through Kay Kay, sometimes too much so. But, when the rest of the pieces begin to click, you have to pick your poison. We jumped out to our first big lead quickly after Gioya and Peyton began to hit. They don't bleed you slowly.

Oh, please. Even the Ag commentators were praising Sherri Coale throughout the second half. On multiple occasions, they talked about how good OU was in running their offenses, setting screens, out of timeouts, and off of inbound plays. We didn't get lucky. We were running our stuff & people were in position to make plays.

I said nothing about Sherri in my post. I simply said we got lucky. And we did. Sherri did things right. It was the girls' failure to play well that nearly did us in.

However it happens, I'll personally take a 10-point win at Upper GI. And I wouldn't care if it was 100-90 or 11-1, it's good news to me.

I'm probably being overly paranoid, too, but I had this feeling that the DOK was dying for OSU to win so they could pile on with more swooning over Liz Donohoe. It's probably a small miracle that they didn't bash Sherri for "letting one get away...."

I don't see OSU play very often in addition to when we play them, so maybe I haven't seen her enough. But I've never felt Donahoe lived up to the hype. Or perhaps she was over-hyped. Same goes for Fussell that played for Texas.

Liz proved last night she can play.

I have always liked watching her play.

In fact, when she was in High School I really hoped she would sign with OU. I think she would have proven to be an excellent addition to our team over the past 2-3 years.
