OU, OSU, UT, TT, CU and A&M to the Pac 10?

Last year, OU's athletic department gave $4 mill in direct and another estimated $3 mill in indirect support to the university's academic fund.

Plus on top of that how many of the state's youth grow up Sooner fans primarily because of the athletic teams? It's the majority of youth's first introduction to the University. Some are born destined to go to OU because of the sports programs. No value can be placed on that.

Heard Chip Brown get interviewed this morning for a few minutes and he indicated that the choice between the last invited member would be between Colorado and Baylor. Not sure about that, but he said that the work that oSu has put in facilites is the determining factor.

BS... athletic facilities aren't going to be a determining factor in this. OSU's standing as a tier 3 university is far more important.

A Washington reporter was on KC radio this morning and said they absolutely will not compromise academics. Now, I don't know how they define a compromise, but both Texas Tech and OSU are tier 3 schools. I don't think Texas is going to be able to force anyone onto the Pac 10 that they don't want.

WSU, UA, ASU, UO, OrSU all have lower endowments than OSU does. This pristine academic Pac 10 myth is really getting steam. It's not like all 10 schools are on the same level as Stanford and Cal-Berkley.

All but Oregon State are rated tier 1 universities. OSU is tier 3 (both Oregon and Oklahoma).

The Pac 10 does have an academic blemish or two, but overall it's a very good academic conference.

Does anybody really think the Pac-10 is going to take the bogus US News and World Report rankings in account when making expansion decisions? Being a tier 3 school in those rankings is not an academic blemish.

Those rankings are mainly based on how exclusive it is to gain admission and what the starting salaries are upon graduation. Obviously public universities in rural areas will be ranked lower. It says nothing about how well they perform their educational responsibilities and of course people in the Academic profession recognize this.

I think that on some level they will at least say that they are taking it into account so they have a built in excuse to have not offered TT or oSu. Not a slight on either of those institutions, just all this Baylor talk seems to be gaining some legs.

Of course they won't... but OSU and Texas Tech aren't elite universities, either.

I'm not sure Baylor is a great fit, either, though (Baptists + Berkeley = odd combination).
