OU rebounding and defense stats... Warning sign?

Are these stats a warning sign of things to come once conference play hits, or are they merely a product of a schedule that is stronger than others in the league?

#9 out of 10 in rebounding defense
#10 out of 10 in offensive rebounds
#9 out of 10 in rebounding margin (with a negative margin)
#9 out of 10 in assists
#9 out of 10 in steals
#9 out of 10 in defense (points per game allowed)
#10 out of 10 in scoring margin
#9 out of 10 in FG defense

Yikes. I’m def concerned with the rebounding. At certain points it legit looks like we aren’t even trying to get them.

This was always going to be a problem due to having Manek and Doolittle who are both pure 4s. You can't play both of them and a 5. So it's either leave one of your three best players on the bench, or play them together and get murdered inside.

Lol yup I saw at least 2 def rebounds that we had no clue where a player or the ball was...(WSU) and multiple off rebounds that we had no player in the paint... in fact as soon as the shot went up guys turned to go back on D...

This was always going to be a problem due to having Manek and Doolittle who are both pure 4s. You can't play both of them and a 5. So it's either leave one of your three best players on the bench, or play them together and get murdered inside.

Having them on the floor together is fine when they're making shots. It's a killer when they are not.

This, I even commended on this in the game thread and Doo & Manek are not aggressive going after O boards.

I don't disagree but watching Saturday in person, I really think the staff may have decided not to go afyer offensive boards much in order to limit transition. It looked noticably different compared to other games I have attended this year. I could be wrong but I commented on in multiple times during the game. Although I'll admit it would be odd for even your frontcourt guys to be that focused on getting back on defense.

I would agree but I've noticed it all season. That's one of the reason I think VI & Hill should be getting more minutes. They both play good D and hustle for boards but they do foul a lot! LOL

We're a finesse team. Doolittle is undersized and Manek is, at best, soft as a rebounder.

Victor and Kuath could do a little better on the boards, but we would lose 70 percent of our scoring.

I am not doubting what Wichita said at all, which is what makes it so maddening. OU is making it so easy for people. Take contested midrange and not even trying for the rebound? Talk about opponents licking their chops...

I think it happens more than people think, but usually it is just with guards. I know even Sampson sometimes had his guards get back rather than try to offensive rebound, especially in a place like Allen Fieldhouse where he didn't want to give up transition. And again, I could be wrong and maybe Doo and Brady just didn't complete hard enough on the glass. It just looked odd to me.

Just watched the DVR. I can’t believe how soft the team is, period. I can’t believe how terrible of rebounders Manek and Doolittle are. Embarrassing really. You have one guy a junior and the other a senior and they appear to have no clue how to even begin to box out. That’s on the coaches, not only to teach technique but to demand it.

Teams like Texas tech, WVU and KU are going to skull drag us. If we end up more than 1-5 in those games it will feel like a miracle. Maybe the toughness fairy magically sprinkles some dust on the team. I will happily eat crow!

I think we’ll get outrebounded all year. We’ll Also finish around 7-9th in the big12. This team has no alpha and is soft in the paint. Manek is soft as charmin and he pouts to much.

We were 4.5 underdogs -- we lost by 5. It's frustrating, yes, because we could have and probably should have won, but I'm guessing we would find a few posts very similar to yours on the Red Raider boards tonight. It's still early in the season, and most teams--certainly teams with as many new guys as OU and Tech both have--are still figuring it out.

I don't want to defend OU's rebounding ability too much because it absolutely is a concern, BUT I think it's important to note that our strength of schedule is currently #1 among Big 12 teams. Our stats would look better if our schedule was padded with more cupcakes, instead of these power 5 and group of 5 opponents.
