OU Softball

If I would have been the Neb. coach, I would have bunted when the bases were loaded with one out in the bottom of the tenth.

Connie Clark made a major error IMO in pulling Luna with a lead. She was just quoted on Thursday that she would always leave Luna in a little longer than normal because she would almost always get out of the jam. I think we would of beaten them anyway with Luna but they had almost no chance after pulling her. They weren't going to beat us with Bruin or the other girl they put in. Luna was their only chance. Then again Clark was the coach when they couldn't win a NC with Cat Osterman, one of the best pitchers in the history of the game. Good job, Connie!

I commented in another thread (another board?) that pulling Luna was a huge mistake on Clark's part! HUGE. Even though the bases were loaded, the Horns were only trailing 1-0 at that point. After Luna left, the bottom fell out... although Bruin almost retired the side without any further damage, to give her credit.

Tough loss for the Huskers, but they made way too many errors, and at this level, you cannot afford to give the other team 3 unearned runs.

Clark has seen some tendencies that Luna has. When she gets wild, she has a difficult time getting herself out of some sort of emotional state (my words, not hers). So, she pulled her thinking that if Bruin just got the ball over the plate, the bleeding would stop. There were zero outs at the time, and Luna had already walked five. Zero outs, bases loaded----you pull Luna at the moment and put in Bruin for an inning or two to let Luna get past it. I think this was her thinking. I don't think Luna is getting out of a bases-loaded, nobody out inning with Shults, Martinez, and Parsons coming up without giving up some more runs. Remember that this is the part of the lineup that Luna has struggled with in all four games. Martinez, Parsons, and Turang hit 500 against ---mostly Luna. I think if Parsons had not got that single, we might have scored only one with Bruin in the game. Then, you can put Luna back in for the last two or three innings. The destroyer was Parsons. Well----look back at what Martinez, Parsons, and Turang had been doing to Luna.

Nebraska committed SIX errors?

Ed: Remember that Bruin almost did escape the situation. She got Shults on a K, and Martinez on a force. Then, I think Parsons had two strikes on her, and they still had a 2-1 lead. Parsons single changed everything, making the strategy look bad. Up to that point, I thought it had worked. Then, the Turang bunt changed everything.

It appears that with Michigan scoring first and Texas scoring first, you just make OU angry - and an angry OU will make you pay - big time.

#2 Florida (should be a bit tired after a 15-inning game)
#4 Texas

2:30
#11 Washington
#8 Michigan (finished at about 2:30)

6:00
#7 Tennessee
Florida-Texas winner

8:30
#1 Oklahoma
Washington-Michigan winner

So, who do we want between Washington and Michigan?

My thinking is that we know that we can beat Michigan at least once out of two games, (we've already beaten them once) so they are my choice... not to mention that Washington played Nebraska very tough (4-3) in their opener, then lost a nailbiter to Tennessee in the second round, 1-0.

But, bottom line, I like our chances to win one of two from anybody that comes up against us in the remaining bracket, short of the championship bracket, should we get there (I'm betting that we do).

We've also beaten Washington. At this point, I'm a bit curious about what Tennessee has. Unless Washington has improved, I don't fear them. Michigan's pitcher can't survive much more, and they only have the one.

I wonder if the Florida small ball will get to Texas. Tennessee and Nebraska have both shown that Florida is susceptible to the big inning.

Tennessee's schedule. Prior to SEC play, they had a very, very soft schedule. They were really impressive for about a month, but against whom, the bottom-feeders of the SEC. In their only outing against Arkansas, in Knoxville, Arkansas won. Missouri took two of three, as did Florida. They just haven't done anything to inspire fear. Based on what I've seen, I tend to rank the remaining teams as:
Oklahoma
Texas
Tennessee---Michigan
Washington
Florida

We'll see how some it plays out.

I agree mostly but based on play so far in WCWS I'd have Texas and Tennessee at same level. Whorns will have to beat Tenn twice and although I think for a single game they would probably beat Tenn, doing it twice in a row is going to be more difficult. Luna may be a little shell shocked after getting pulled so early. I think Connie Clark is probably the weakest link on that team.

I guess I'm not the only one who doesn't always agree with coaches. :)

Bruins homered to left with two on board due to walks. Texas 3-0 in the top of the third. Luna has no-hit Florida.

I concur about Clark. I remember a couple of days ago, (before OUr game) that she made another questionable (to me) coaching move.

As I was in the act of posting Bruin yanked a pitch barely out of the park... Texas leads, 3-0, top of the third.

Luna one-hit Florida. The teams that OU has beaten in the World Series are 3-0 in the World Series when not playing OU. Michigan could make it 4-0 if they beat Washington.

Texas is 50-6 this year, when not playing OU. I think that is the second best record in the US.

Welp, so much for that. 1 hit shutout w/ 14 K's for Luna.

Also, I concur about Clark, & I'd be willing to bet that a good majority of the UT fanbase would agree as well. She seems to out-think herself on a few occasions & it ends up getting them in trouble.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I've read quite a few times the whorn fans displeasure with Clark but probably a little less this year since they made the WCWS.

Maybe it's just the Sooners that shell shock Luna!??? I hope so!

It may work out good for Fexas that they pulled Luna quick yesterday. They will need her for two games today. I would not be surprised if it is OU and Texas in the finals.

In addition to Texas beating Florida today in their elimination game, they still have to beat Tennessee twice. They may do it, but I'm betting that we have to play Tennessee.
