I was posting this on the West Virginia topic, but figured I'd start a new one.
Can't go off of one game. But i saw a lot of stuff I haven't seen all year on the offensive end from Octo-Manning. She really did a good job of taking her time and getting into her footwork- beating opponents with technique as opposed to pure athleticism. When she does that she is unguardable. She needs 30+ mins a game, and she's deserved it for a while I've thought. Maybe this was Sherri's plan, bring her up when it really matters... A lot of us saw this talent all year, I doubt Sherri was missing it. Notice how her demeanor on Maddie in the interviews completely changed? She really praised Maddie and I haven't heard her do that all season. She broke her down, now she is building her back up at the right time. It looks to be paying off. Most important stat--- 1 turnover. Maddies had some good games against Texas- If she slows it down again I like for her to have another big game.
As for everyone else, I see a lot of players really filling there roles together. Gabbi looks Great. Stew is as consistent as it gets. KK and Vivi play TOUGH. There's a lot of good things taking place and we are really coming together. We could make a nice run here.
I do feel for Gioya right now, she's just really struggling to get it going again. She looks like she is really pressing on the offensive end. What I really think is she needs an offseason to become a little more of dynamic player- She has the big cross over and if she isn't hitting from deep- everything works off the success of that move. It might be the best crossover in the Big 12 but everyone in the Big 12 knows that it is coming... She needs to develop some counters and improve her off hand. But, if she can get it going again- especially form deep, look out. She's athletic enough to have a big game against Texas even if they all know what is coming. And honestly, I'm pulling for her.
One of our 3 scoring guards Maddie, Peyton, or Gioya will be gaurded by Brady Sanders. We need to exploit her when she is in- that is a heavy mismatch for all 3... Adkins and Davenport will probably play a lot to keep up w us, however, and they will matchup w Stew and Gioya- Maddie when she's at the 3. Those two are both solid defenders, but nothing we can't beat. The real focal point needs to be on Maddie and Sharane when they play that stretch 4, there should be a big mismatch there. I like our odds.
