Ou- ualr

the only thing is who do you bench? When OU goes to the bench we see a droop off everywhere but the post. I think at the point Kornet should start she's our best player right now...

I would bench whoever is making silly turnovers and fouls. I would not hesitate to play everyone on the bench if needed to find someone who could play minutes without silly fouls or turnovers. From what I've seen, Whitney Ritchie can take better care of the ball than some of the starters. Certainly, Derica Wyatt can. You cannot coddle players. Regardless of who they are they have to learn quickly there are consequences for making repeated mistakes. The problem is, Sherri has tolerated mistakes for years and I don't see her changing her ways anytime soon, consequently, players don't worry about making mistakes.

Has Sherri given up on Little? She only played 15 minutes yesterday, and she only had 3 fouls... Also Ortiz didn't have a single assist yesterday! Not a good line for your point guard. Seems like Ortiz is going to have a up and down season and we really don't have a true back up. Manning just isn't a point guard, and Edwards isn't willing to shoot. As good as Cox is, Sherri really might need to look for a point guard for next year.

I agree! Need a bigger, quicker pg that can make things happen and shoot--plus play tough on man ball on the pg. to disrupt the other teams offense since defense is a problem. Cox is a long shot anyway. Edwards should get more of a chance. I think they should stick with Little--she is still rusty..She can shoot the rock once the rust wears off.

Too many on here had unrealistic expectations for Gabbi. Very few freshman point guards can come in and be significantly productive. Especially without a very strong returning cast. She is very likely to improve given time, but it will take patience.

Little only produced 2 points and 1 assist in her 15 minutes. Sherri had to look for help elsewhere Sunday. When you play 1 post and 4 "guard types", by the time you give Sharane & Gabbi lots of minutes, that only leaves 2 spots to be shared by Peyton, Lanesia, Nicole, T. Edwards, Derica, Maddie, & Gioya. Unless you are playing excellent basketball you won't get 30 to 35 minutes. Peyton did not and has not lately. I agree we need that, but until it happens .......

Sherri is not accustomed to having enough possibilities that she can bench someone. Yesterday, we made a pretty good comeback, coming within two three times. But, we made it without any starters other than Sharane.

We have already seen LaNesia replace Gioya. We may actually see Nicole or Gioya replace Peyton. Peyton isn't standing up when the game is on the line. She is much too quiet.

Ortiz still has a lot to learn. She was too far above the talent in HS and didn't have to think. She needs to learn. The definition of a point guard may be altered a bit while she is learning. Right now, she is not effective at getting the ball into the middle. She is effective at calming things down and bringing the ball up. We actually had problems with both last year. She may bring the ball up and be transformed into more of a shooting guard once it crosses the line.

LaNesia or Gioya may be more involved in getting the ball inside. But, I think we will see more of Maddie. I've seen the comments that suggest that she is turnover prone. MOST of her turnovers have been due to stone hands on the part of receivers and some bad calls against Maddie. She seems to precipitate more bad calls per minute than anyone since Stacy King. She got charged with two offensive fouls. Sherri said one occurred with the defender inside the circle. Wipe out a score. She wasn't too happy with the other. She also has had people like Kay Kay and Peyton catch passes standing all alone under the basket, only to miss layups while standing perfectly still. No assist. Maddie can get the ball into the middle.

Therein lies the biggest issue. Sherri has long believed that Kay Kay has super talent. She is the biggest Kay Kay fan of all. I can see what she sees, but only rarely. Kay Kay just doesn't show up for games on defense, never has. I think I can drive the lane on Kay Kay, assuming the I don't bounce the ball off my cane. She can miss chip shots that would turn the game into a rout, only to have them become point for the opposition when she tries to rebound her miss. She just doesn't show up consistently.

I don't think this is an experiment that we should continue for the entire year. We've seen enough to know that Vivi can play, and she is pretty solid against pressure. She makes some mistakes. But, she is a better rebounder and has more of an internal presence than Kay Kay. It's time to let Vivi start. If Kay Kay wants to play, earn it. If you don't want to play, make the scholarship available for someone who does.

I think that even Sharane starts slowly at times. We may need Kornet's energy at the outset just to stir up the blood.

Excellent Analysis, Syb.

I have always been a big Kay Kay fan. But admit she has about worn out my patience.

I believe Sherri thought KK was misused in High School, and would be better than she has proved to be so far. We all know she has had very impressive moments, but I have no idea why she is so inconsistent. At times this year she has been very good at avoiding the dumb fouls. If she could stay in the game and focus her skills all the time, she would be our best post. At this point I'm not sure that is going to happen.

But if you will look closely at the videos of games we have played, you are aware Vivi will not be consistent either - at least in the short term.

I'm glad you brought up the fact Peyton only played 15 minutes. In my opinion, that was a huge mistake. How many times have we all seen good players start out slowly then suddenly have an amazing burst of scoring, rebounds, defense, etc. Aaryn is one who did it several times. Peyton very well could have been the hero by leading the team to a win if given the chance. 15 minutes was poor coaching, IMO.

Regarding Ortiz, I'm not ready to throw in the towel yet. Obviously, she has struggled against good defenders but, just about everyone else has too. At this point, Sherri has few options. Neither Edwards nor Maddie can get the job done which means Ortiz is the only viable choice Sherri has. Sherri has put all of her eggs in one basket many times in the past. She has done so again.

I agree with you that we need another point guard. Unfortunately, we also need Cox/Holmes as well and there is only one ship available.

In regards to the scholarship I would not be suprised if someone transfers.

Syb, I agree. Now you know how I felt about Nicole G. over the last two years.

Ortiz was supposed to be third best point guard OU ever had. She was going to revolutionize our team.

Oops. Every time I see her she reminds me more of Hook than DRob. She's pretty frazzled and ineffective right now. I'd say that could change, but I think she's playing just the way Sherri thought she would a and wants.

Edwards is just as good as she is right now - in every way.
