OU vs Boston College

Vivi, Kay Kay, and Peyton make the all-tournament team along with BC's Boudreau and Hughes.

Sherri: We proved that we learned how to win when we weren't shooting well. Abysmal in the first half. Patience in the second half was good. A stretch late in the third when Gabbi got a three, Maddie got to the rim and got fouled (and we broke it open). It's a lot easier when we make wide open looks. T'Ona took Hughes out of the game in the second half.

Feed died.

BC shot 40%, 46% from three
OU 39%, 4 of 21 from three.
Turnovers OU 8 BC 23
Peyton 17
Vivi 14
Kay Kay 13
Maddie 9
Gabbi 7
T'Ona 4
Derica 4
LaNesia 3
Treece 2

Sherri said that BC is a good team.

I thought that we looked at our best in this tournament when we shot so badly in the first half of games, but pulled away at the end. It was kind of a gut check tournament.

Thanks so much for keeping us informed, Syb.

Very interesting that we had both primary inside players on the all-tournament team - even though they sub for each other. That bodes well for the season.

I was a bit worried about this tournament, but the girls did a great job.

Thanks again.

The turnover margin in the last two games has been really terrific. The staff finally must have listened to j2d2.

If you take out our two posts, the rest of the team was 13 of 45 from the field. We were 4 of 20 from three, and only 24 of 34 from the line. We had three or four different players go to the line and miss two of two. Yet, we seemed about to break out all night long.

We broke it open quickly. At 8:53 of the fourth quarter, we had a four point lead, about as stable as any we had had all night. Then, Gabbi hit a three, T'Ona hit two free throws, and Peyton hit a layup. It went from 46-50 to 46-57 before BC could score again. We just extended it from that point, and BC never recovered.

We brought T'Ona in for Derica, and Peyton, Maddie, Gabbi, and T'Ona played the entire fourth with Kay Kay or Vivi. T'Ona had 8 assists, and she cooled off Hughes.

This was a good win.

If you read the SoonerNotes, it says that OU only played six players in the second half. Then, it goes on to list the six (but lists seven who actually played): Gabbi, Maddie, Peyton, Derica, T'Ona, Vivi, and Kay Kay.

Thank you Syb for all your effort. Seemed like a strong win agin a streeking team. Good challenge, What say!

There is no indication how good Utah or Boston College were. They were undefeated, but they really hadn't played anyone yet. BYU was similar. I thought we won all three of these games because of better athletes. We didn't really shoot well in the Bahamas.

We may not have any idea how teams stack up against each other for a couple of months. UConn is good. From there, it isn't all that clear.

There is a pattern that is forming since the North Texas game. We tend to open it up sometime with the three. Against BYU, Maddie began on fire, hitting three threes early, and we never looked back. We led 26-17 at the quarter, 40-25 at the half, and coasted home.

Against BYU, Derica and Peyton hit threes to give OU an 8-0 lead. BYU hung around for a quarter, but Peyton and Gabbi hit threes to take it out to 20-9. Then, Maddie hit a two and a three, and it was 25-14. Gabbi hit another three to extend it to 28-17. Then Gabbi hit another three to make it 31-21 before Maddie hit one to make it 34-21 at the half. Key Kay then put on the pressure, and OU didn't look back.

Against Utah, it was close. Kay Kay and Vivi carried us in the third quarter after which we led only 48-43, Then, Gabbi started it with a three, 51-43. Peyton hit two threes, and it was 57-43. That was all, folks.

We just exploded in the fourth against BC. In the third, BC took a 30-27 lead, and it didn't look good. Kay Kay hit a couple of layups, and Maddie hit two free throws, and OU got a 33-32 lead. They took it back 34-33, but Peyton hit a three, 36-34. But, they kept scoring, and we had only Maddie hitting free throws. Layups by Kay Kay and Vivi gave us a 47-44 lead. How did we go from 47-44 to 76-61 in a quarter? Vivi got an old-fashioned three. Gabbi followed with a three. T'Ona made a couple of free throws, and Peyton hit a layup. Suddenly, we led 57-46. It seemed that Vivi and Kay Kay just kept making layups after that, and BC couldn't keep up.

It always seemed to be a rain of threes that broke it open. It's nice if they come in the first quarter.
