OU vs. Creighton

-Couldn’t buy a call in the 2nd half.

A string of terrible calls against us in the second half, all (or most anyway) by the same official. The guys on the Sooner radio broadcast were calling him on it repeatedly.

Where were the OU fans?
On tv it looked there wasn't a 1,000 fans in the seats.

There was more then 1,000 easily. I was there. Comparing similar games at this time of year, I would say attendance was up. Still not great, but up. Even last years game seemed lower attendance for similar time.

I stopped and started looking at the attendance numbers. Last night 8,000 sold, 4400 estimate. Similar game last year looking at box scores showed 9,000. Not sure if that is estimate or sold. I remember thinking last year there was less the 5,000 in attendance for the close to Christmas game, but I may be off.

I know families that disagree. They’ve virtually stopped attending since the Thunder have come to town. They go to Texas/KU/OSU now.

Agree, I know the people around our season tickets don't hardly attend games as they also have Thunder tickets. They try to resell OU tickets, but you can always get cheaper tickets then the face value of the season tickets.

OU students have stopped going to basketball games for a while now. It’s really really bad and I’m not sure what to do about it. They are giving away tickets for free and they still aren’t coming. Hell, even OU football doesn’t fill out the student section anymore for certain games. I used to coach in HS and fan support for all sporting events has steadily fallen for over a decade. Just the way it is now. No idea why.

I'm a defense first fan. I learned from Sampson that whatever you do on offense, defense can keep you in the game.

It can't be because they like good basketball. Yes, the NBA has flashy, impressive players, but something has always been missing for me when I watch an NBA game.

I think some people choose the NBA games because they want to 'see and be seen'.

I'd encourage you to give the NBA another try, especially if you can make it to a game in person. I love college hoops, and don't have any NBA team that I follow/care about like the Sooners. But the quality of basketball at the NBA level is so far superior to the college game in every area that there really is no comparison. A lot of people think the NBA is all style, no substance, but nothing is further from the truth. NBA players are also vastly superior at all the basic skills . . . shooting, passing, dribbling, etc. And contrary to the old myth, NBA teams/players are also much better defensively than even the best college defenses. It's perfectly fine to prefer college to NBA, but I think it is just flat wrong to say that the NBA isn't "good basketball."

And the fan experience for a Thunder game in OKC, compared to a Sooner game at the LNC, is not even in the same zip code. I don't know where the Thunder rank in overall NBA experience/atmosphere, but they do a phenomenal job up there.

The LNC will have a crowd of 2,500 and the yellow shirts will still be out checking tickets to gain access to the lower level.

Maybe the fact that I've only watched on TV is the problem.

you dont hafta go to an NBA game to enjoy it either. especially OKC ... we have one of the best teams in the league here and theya re fun to watch. Russ is Russ, Pg is on fire these days, and the whole league is in love with Steven Adams emergence. You also get to throw in Schroder, Jeremy Grant, Diallo, Ferguson, Abrines ... this team has excellent players!!

THIS
Love my sooners...but damn...watching Odomes try to dribble in the open court and seeing Freeman shoot an air ball from the FT line just makes wonder ...WTF? You guys are D1...even seeing the walk-on's air ball a FT..:facepalm

Yes - I know..everyone misses some, badly...

There was a thread in the past where I graphed all the data. My conclusion was that in the years that we were a good team with a star player, attendence was up. When we were bad, attendance was down. I know novel concept.

It showed very little to do with thunder basketball

Give me the college experience over the NBA anytime. I don't need an announcer screaming at me the whole game or wacky movie clips or constant thumping music.

My (now late) father and I attended a Thunder playoff game a few years ago, and we quite literally could not hear each other speak throughout most of the game -- and it wasn't crowd noise. It was the piped-in nonsense. The product on the floor might have been fine, but the NBA (at least in OKC) seemingly isn't confident enough to let it stand on its own. It was like a midsized-market Morning Zoo radio show with visuals, entertaining for an easily distracted 12-year-old, perhaps, but unbearable for my taste.

As for the play on the court, I don't watch NBA games all that often -- once or twice a month, mostly when I can see a Sooner play -- but I see bad shots and dribbling mishaps not infrequently. Yes, even the occasional air ball.

i'd venture to say that a lot of the people that go to thunder games are not that interested in basketball...more about entertainment. If it had the atmosphere of the college games, it wouldn't survive here.

It has positives and negatives.

I dont know why we are griping about the crowds. No one gets good attendance in the middle of December. The crowd isnt any different than it was 15-20 years ago. Its only better if we have a Blake Griffin or Trae Young to bring in the casual fan.
