Agree. Did Treece even hit the floor today?
No, she never got off the bench.

I'll be interested to see the stat sheet to see the sub pattern for Vivi. She was exhausted. But, it seems to me that Sherri had pulled Kay Kay and left Vivi in for a bit. Vivi was so much more productive today that I think Sherri was reluctant to bring Kay Kay back in. She wasn't rebounding, and she was missing layups. Vivi finished. Kay Kay didn't.
I think she brought Kay Kay in. But, didn't she bring Vivi back in after a couple of minutes rest?
No doubt. KK has been struggling ever since she missed that last second shot a couple of weeks ago against OSU, which was not totally her fault. A rough and obvious foul was overlooked during that sequence - not against KK but against (if I recall correctly) Peyton who appeared to be the designated shooter. We then had to scramble and go to plan B. I wish KK had hit it, but have never felt like she was totally at fault. But I do think it has messed up her confidence. Hopefully she gets things straightened out and gets back to her old self. We need both centers at the top of their games to finish strong.
The truth is we cannot depend on just Vivi because of the energy issue. None of us know exactly what the problem is, but to be effective enough to allow us to consistently win she has to play more than a few minutes before getting worn out. If we want to play up-tempo the center must be somewhat mobile.
I want to make it clear that I am not criticizing Vivi's play. In some games she plays very well. But honestly 4 rebounds in 21 minutes is not winning basketball. My personal belief is that she gets so exhausted that on defense she is just too tired to play strong, and is at least partially having to rest to get her strength back.
I suspect that we will see a rotation of Vivi/Nancy, much as we do with Vivi/Kay Kay. They will be different. Vivi is purely a back to the basket player. Nancy can face the basket and could work with another post inside or a good forward.
We saw a little of what can open up today. How many of Maddie's layups would have been possible if Kay Kay or Vivi were standing under the basket? They brought the defender high, leaving the middle open for Maddie. Must have accounted for at least eight points. I suspect we will see two different types of offense, but both will play inside on defense.
It's comparable because that is how KU negotiated their tier 3 rights with ESPiN and how we negotiated our tier 3 rights. I'm not referring to TV versus online. I'm referring to tier 3 broadcast rights (Tier three rights consist of rights to television content or rights to sporting event content that has been passed over by our television partners). TheMont mentioned game was on WatchESPN (ESPN3) and I replied what I did.
I tend to think that there is more reason for optimism this season than in the past two. Last year, we saw that we could finish second in the Big Twelve with almost the same team, with less experience. This year, we were stunned early with a loss to North Texas. But, we reeled off a number of good wins in a row, some over good teams. We did it without a starter who was sidelined.
Curiously, about the time we should have flourished, we suddenly couldn't hit a shot. We had seen that Peyton and Maddie could shoot. Now, they couldn't. We had seen that Gabbi could be an excellent point guard, worthy of being the point for a US team. Now, she was mistake prone. A period of certain growth, especially with the return of Gioya, became a regression.
But, we have seen that this team can do it. They have done it. They just keep running into obstacles, most of which are in the mirror. If they back off and look at themselves, they might be able to settle down and become the team that beat Texas soundly, trounced a good BYU team, and won on the road against Washington. There are only four or five teams that rise above. Most of them are flawed. We see teams with good wins who lose to less than wonderful teams.
If we can get everyone to settle down, we have enough to make the Elite Eight. There are probably twenty or thirty teams in almost the same boat. Win some good ones, lose some bad ones. About four of these will make the Elite Eight. If we don't draw Connecticut, Notre Dame, South Carolina, or Arizona State, we might well be one of them.
There is no way, Syb, that this team is going to make the Elite 8. I mean really. You've said some amazing things, but this takes the cake.

Well, for the last 1000 years, we haven't avoid Connecticut in the second round and the early brackets I reviewed had us up against them in the second round again. That may have changed.
Look, we have a coach who is a great person and a hall of famer, we have tremendous talent.
We just haven't been able to pull it all together except for Texas and BYU. We lost basically to a division 2 team this year. We are up a down like a yo-yo and our best players disappear for long stretches of not just a single game, but for long stretches of the season.
I want them to win. In a perfect storm they can beat good teams. We aren't having a lot of perfect storms this season.
This is just as likely scenario as yours, Syb:
We lose the last 3 season games. We get bounced out no later than the second round in BiG 12 Tournament and we get embarrassed in first round of NCAA.
What if it is worse than that and we get beat in Big 12 opening round and don't make the tournament at all. Last part is highly unlikely.
I want the girls to win. I think they can. But will they?
These season's performances tells me they won't. Is there any real solid proof - not a one game aberration -that indicates this team is going to do win any of what could be their last four guaranteed games?

Did you mean haven't avoided Stanford in the second round? It seems like we are always put in a bracket with them. The only time I remember playing Connecticut in the tournament was when we played them in the finals.
This team's Achilles Heel is their inconsistency. You never know if they are going to be Jekyll or Hyde when they take the court. When they play their best, as they did against Texas, they can beat any team in the Big XII, all things being equal. The problem is that there have been entirely too many games when they didn't even come close to playing their best.
If all teams played their best game, I do not think we could beat Texas or Baylor. I doubt we would beat OSU either.
We are 3 and 5 against virtually the same Texas with virtually the same roster for us over the last 2 years. And 1-2 against Baylor, all but one game we could of won- that one time being the first time we played Baylor at Baylor with a team full of sophomores and freshman. No weight again here.
Im not even gonna touch the OSU comment-- we have played two terrible games against them, one we almost won. We need to be able to differentiate playing terribly from what we are actually capable of doing on this board- stop making claims based on extremely poor performances. How did we forget we just beat Texas again two weeks ago?..... It blows my mind.
Norm you can keep making hypothetical claims based on high school recruiting. But there is a sample there, and it proves we are not just competing like some teams in the conference- we are winning. If u want to comment on how we lack consistency, theres no disputing that. But to continuously make statements based on the premise that we are not a good basketball team, we don't have the players, and we can't beat good teams- facts are facts buddy.
Are you saying Texas played a good game when we beat them? If so, that truly is mind blowing! They shot 29%. Your history has always been when we get beat, we played bad. When we win we are suddenly a top ten team because we have tons of talent.
When have I ever said we don't have good players? Let me help you with that...never!
what Syb said. U say we don't have the players other programs have ALL THE TIME, like North Texas?? ha. You literally trash them after every loss.
-- If we have good players, then what other position could I take? Do you think were a team that should be continuously shooting 35% game in and game out? I certainly don't. I don't because I watch games. Teams that continuously shoot 35% shoot 35% because they can't get open looks, we shoot 35% because have good shooters missing wide open shots. Its certainly a trend of inconsistency, but not one that should lead in you to believe that is how good of a team we are- or well our coaching staff is a coaching. The real talent was in getting the open shot, which we got in spades. That and I've seen these players shoot before, I know its uncharacteristic to miss so much, so often.
In regards to Texas, there is no better way to judge who would win than to take the actual sample of who has won, and who lost, am I right? Because that's what Im saying. And w/ the same core of players vs. the same core of players, we are leading the series. You can make all the hypothetical hypothesis u want, but they are just hypothesis- they have no facts to support the claims. That is the issue here. Just cause they have a 6'7 player that was recruited by Everyone or, the top recruiting class in nation doesn't make them the better team. The better team wins the game- and we didn't just do that once, we have done that 3 of 5. So- what I am saying is your hypothesis is false, and supporting that w facts. And therefore u should quit dogging our players and supporting Texas playesr- Because it don't matter who they add, we just keep on beating them.
