OU vs Louisville

0:32 Vegas for three 92=95
First shot by Vegas in OT

Shoni throws it way over Jude's head

Hook mises a three
Vegas misses a three
Asia is fouled by Kornet

Asia hits FT, hits second
Vegas misses three

Final 92-97

We actually did better than I had thought we would, but differently. We can't shoot?

OU, depending on some younger players, demonstrated that they are contenders. Louisville had a lot back from a finalist. They know they had a game, and I think they are lucky that we had some newcomers that let them come back at the end. Those two breakaways by Jude Schimmel were killers.

Ellenburg only had two fouls. Why did Sherri bring in Edwards for defensive purposes? She allowed the first coast-to-coast layup. Then Hook allowed the second one.

I think that Sherri thinks that Edwards is really good on defense and would slow them down, maybe cause them to lose some time on the clock. That simply was wrong.

Coulda shoulda but we came up short. I thought we played hard and we now know our strengths and weaknesses as Louisville is a good team. Sherri has got to figure out something regarding rebounding. I expected more from Griffin today but she didn't produce. The pleasant surprise was Gioya. Really proud of that freshman! Kaylon continues to foul way too much. The entire team made a number of dumb fouls today.

Durrett got a lot of minutes and in my opinion that was a mistake. Kornet still cannot make a 3 pointer. Bottom line is, when you shoot 35% from the field and 24% from BTA, you should get beat. Hopefully, this team knows what they need to work on and comes back stronger next game.

Hook is a Senior point guard and she plays out of control too much. She has to be the one in control. She is a gutty player with injury, but i expect more from her in running some kind of offense.

Also, Kaylon has gone way past Nicole Griffin. If Kaylon is healthy she has to get the bulk of the minutes.

The three (I think) followed by Hook getting stripped on the inbounds for an easy two, a five point play really hurt.

I think if Vegas had stopped and shot a short jump shot at the end of regulation we win (but what do I know.) She was trying to draw a foul but was uncontrolled trying for a layup. I don't know whether she was tripped or not.

Sooners were hot, then cold, then hot to tie at the end of regulation, then cold and started heating up but couldn't claw back. If the Cardinals are a top 5 team (not saying they aren't) I feel pretty good about the game.

Agree. OU was standing around watching the Cards rebound. Anytime Ellenberg as 10 rebounds...and the post players don't...something is wrong! I loved the spark and confidence that Carter showed, then googled her. Not surprised!

CORRECTION: Ellenberg had 10 DEFENSIVE rebounds and 2 offensive. DEFENSIVE? She may as well play the 5 with a perimeter offensive game. Geez!

We have to something about rebounds if Konet not hitting 3's then i think we should start Nicole G and Kay Kay.

Morgan is still injured. I didn't see today's game, but I did notice that Morgan was more emotional than I had seen her in the last game. It caused mistakes. She really hasn't quite caught fire yet this year.

I think we had a couple of problems. Griffin is still our best center on defense. She gets decent position, and is difficult for them to shoot over. We also block out better with her on the floor. Notice that we got that 17-2 lead with her on the floor. Kay Kay was only there for a minute. The difference is that Kay Kay fight for rebounds better, but the offenses are willing to go over Kay Kay. She gets fouls that Griffin doesn't get. Griffin was a bit passive today. She seems to need reminding every day.

Also, notice that we built that lead with Kornet scoring six and hustling. When we brought Portia into the game, we lost all momentum: poor post defense and no blocking out. If you block out, someone gets the rebound, even if it isn't you. If the other team doesn't have to worry about you, they can dominate the interior----which they did with Portia in the game.

Edwards was good in exhibition because she didn't play out of control. She didn't make freshman mistakes. Now, she does. May need to sit her to remind her why she got time on court. Right now, I'd rather have Derica until TT settles back down.

Carter was a part of opening that game up for us. But, she made two mistakes in the last twenty seconds that enabled Louisville to tie: travel and missed a FT. Tried to make something happen when it was better to do absolutely nothing.

Louisville is a top five team, maybe top two. I'm rather impressed that we hung with them, especially shooting 35%.

Can somebody explain this to me why Morgan is UNDER the screen of Shoni Schimmel she burn us twice.

Not sure when I last saw a game with that many charges. Most were good calls, some were not. But, both teams didn't seem to care about running over the defender.

I missed the last 10 minutes. I feel good that we played them close. A lot of room for improvement.

Too much poor shot selection

Too many easy baskets missed

Too many dumb fouls.

Portia looked like she is too slow for this level of basketball. Thought Kellogg moved much better the short time in the game.

After we got our big early lead we started playing rushed and tight and Louisville recovered and started playing relaxed. Possibly we suddenly looked at the score and wondered what we were doing leading a top team that way.

Thought there were a lot of phantom fouls called. I'm glad that they are taking the thug ball out of the game but today was too tight. Foul trouble hurt the Sooners who are still only 7 deep with players that appear to be ready to play.

When was the last time you seen a game with so many miss travels and carry's.

It is not coincidence that OU has drawn a ton of fouls vs both Louisville and Gonzaga...it is by design; we are driving playing aggressive offense and trying to get those foul calls. Most of the time we did...but inevitably we also have gotten some charge calls.

An exciting fun game to watch. A lot more positives than negatives today...it really came down to them hitting 47% and us shooting 35%...we counteracted that by shooting 85% at the line. Carter will be a star; recruiting services missed on her...she is easily a top 50 player...really impressed with her athletic ability/strength and she will learn from the mistakes. The 3 she hit with 3 minutes left in the 2nd half to give us the lead showed a lot of confidence and guts. Whether she starts or not she will be playing starter minutes.

Regarding first point above I agree with you NC...would like to see Kellogg get those minutes and let her make mistakes and grow. Ultimately she is more what Sherri wants in a PF...6'2" and capable of making 3s. I could see Sherri being a little reticent about playing her too much vs Louisville as mistakes could hurt her confidence and slow down her development. Would like to see her get close to 20 minutes vs UTA on Wednesday.

I thought what happened in the 1st half was both teams got in foul trouble and their bench was just better than our bench...obviously the big key for them was how well Gibbs played during that stretch. Having Maddie would have been huge to help our bench depth.....

One point Sherri made in her post game comments was that when the whistles are blown that much, it's difficult to develop a rhythm on offense. She said they have to figure out how to keep a rhythm in spite of all the stoppages in play.

She had 2 timeouts left after the 2 coast to coast layups by Schimmel. Why not call a timeout and set up your defense? I agree with Vinny78 about getting outcoached at the end.
