I realize there is a game thread, but this was an unforgettable game experience! If we didn't win, I would probably have nightmares of #50 (Goldin) because his 16 points in the first half were about 25 feet from where I was seated. If you thought it was tough watching our bigs trying to slow him down on TV, it was far more painful in person. I kept thinking that whole first half this was just a bad matchup for us. When they weren't feeding it inside, they were usually getting second chances due to badly outrebounding us. I felt Taylor kept us in the game in the first half. Our defense got better near the end of the first half, but I could see we were trying so hard on defense, that we couldn't make any shots on offense. I believe all our scoring in the last five minutes of the first half were from the free throw line.

I credit Coach Moser for making the halftime adjustments. We rebounded the ball so much better in the second half. And while their bigs still got their rebounds and points, we at least made them work for it. Of course, that ending was unbelievable! I was trying to stay optimistic after going from being up 82-78 to being down 86-83 while thinking it's going to be Fears taking the winning shot. And boy did he!

Here are a few tidbits from the game:

- Props to the Michigan fans for outnumbering the OU fans about 10-to-1 even though there is nowhere close to a 10-1 ratio of Michigan alum vs Oklahoma alum living near Charlotte.
- Props to both schools' fans for being loud and creating as much energy as possible for an arena that was half-empty.
- I can't help but think if OU had Goldin or Michigan had Fears, you'd have a couple of serious Final Four contenders.
- This may have been Coach Moser's best game as a head coach in terms of adjustments against a team we did not match up well with.
- The officials blew some calls for both schools, but overall did a good job. At least the total number of fouls for both schools was about equal.
- This OU team plays hard...hard as any I've seen since at least the 2016 squad...and great on-court chemistry. I don't sense any selfishness whatsoever.
- The North Carolina fans finally stopped thanking me for sending them Brady Manek :). I always told them our fan base was genuinely happy for his success at UNC.
- If we put together a Mount Rushmore of OU freshman before this season, Adams, Tisdale, B Griffin and T Young are probably on it. Once this year is over, either Griffin or Young may have to step aside for Jeremiah Fears.

Great recap...I don't think you can take blake off of it

I'm jealous! The best game I've ever seen in person was an OU loss -- OU @ Kansas 2016.

I'm kicking myself. My wife and i went to Atlantis during the Buddy years when we lost the championship to Wisconsin. I told her earlier we were going to Atlantis again should we go? I wasn't uber confident about the team and life happened and we let it slide...and sure enough we win the thing. Then i'm like hey they're playing a neutral site game in December in Charlotte(she wants to see North and South Carolina) and we could have a getaway? Nahhh it's on a Wednesday, nevermind. Well, I can say we've missed out on two places where the OU basketball was pretty fun. You never know!

In terms of outcome, I win. In terms of game experience, you win. When someone like Dick Vitale says it was one of the greatest games he ever called, it's a special game. I remember K Lattin saying after that game his legendary grandfather texted him four words: "Practice your free throws". I also remember Dick Vitale saying during the game about Buddy Hield: "Chad Ford, it's time to update your Mock Draft Board.! Number 30!? He's waaaaay better than that!"

Thinking about those Lattin free throws gives me PTSD.

Unfortunately I always watch games with a more technical eye than just enjoying the flow…. Trying to change…lol.

I really am trying hard to not have expectations this yr… this game I honestly would have been “ok” with a loss. After watching mich the other day I was really impressed with them. Their bigs especially. I figured we didn’t match up well.

Sounds like a great time, I do disagree about officiating… thought it was pretty bad… on both sides. BUT, for once we were on the positive end. lol

Two quick stories about that. Was by chance seated next to one of the only other OU fans in AFH. During the timeout before the front end, I turned to him and (only half jokingly) said that I’d name any future son I have after Lattin if he surprised me and made it. The guy was confident he was going to make it. I have been to too many games in the Fieldhouse to be so naive.

A couple years later, Buddy was in Wichita for a summer clinic. The wife of a guy I coached baseball with taught at Sunrise, so I stopped by and she introduced me. While we were talking, I mentioned being there for that game and he shook his head, sighed, and just said, “Khadeem.”

Wow, yeah that must have been a tough pill to swallow for Buddy after that all-world performance.

Yea, you could tell he didn’t want to crap on Latin but was just so bummed they were just a free throw away from winning it. If only we had been in the double bonus, maybe he would have been able to split the pair. Self was very smart to use their last timeout before the front end. If he had made it, being out of timeouts would have killed KU’s chances, but he knew the crowd was going to get so loud and wanted Lattin to have to spend almost three minutes thinking about it.

Best game I’ve attended in person was the elite 8 game in Pasadena against Oregon, Buddy Heilds Senior year

Runner up with the Hollis Price game winning shot against Bobby Knights Texas Tech in Norman. It was fun trolling Knight as he threw a tantrum about the play clock not starting quick enough

beating KU in Norman is always great in person .. but the one I will mention is OU osu at the final game of Gallahager Hall

Nolan Johnson put dmason in vice grips all game (only 6 points) .. and then dominated him on O in the last 10 min .. (OU went 1-4 every trip down the stretch of the game and nolan johnson took dmase 1 on 1 over and over and over and either scored or got fouled...Nolan finished with 21 )

also osu "captured" the spirt of gia at half time into a jar .. to release it in the new arena ... and OU destroyed their party ..
