OU vs miss st 1pm cst. ESPN2

In conference play:
Reaves:
FG -- 34%
3PT -- 20%
FT -- 66%

His field goal % in conference play is 2nd to last on the team, FT% 3rd to last, 3 point % 2nd to last. He does lead the team in turnovers (almost doubling the player in 2nd) and he leads the entire team in usage % despite these abysmal numbers.

Nothing else to say

Those FT numbers are wild! Pretty obvious Reaves has a confidence problem. No way a guy who has a documented season of shooting well should be that low with his FTs. Yikes.

Big minutes today from Williams. Appeared to be the only guy with a confident stroke in the second half. The dunk was nasty.

I'm glad we made plenty of hay in the first half because the second half was a mess. But one-point wins look pretty this time of year.

Actually, Reaves has 40 turnovers on the season; Doo has 33.

Nothing else to say

Nonsense. There’s plenty more to say.

Points per game: He’s third on the team (second in total points)
Steals per game: Tied for second (alone in second on total steals)
Free throws attempted: First on the team (40 more than second place)
Free throws made: First on the team (30 more than second place)
FT%: Fourth on the team
Rebounds per game: Third on the team
Assists per game: Second on the team

Do I want to see improvement from Reaves? Of course. But he is making significant contributions in numerous areas; you don't sit a guy who is doing that.

The point of the post in question is that he hasn't made these contributions during conference play, in fact he's been abysmal. The last 5 games he's 15-58 from the field and an astonishing 3-26 from the 3 point line. My Checotah High School math tells me that's 26% overall and an unbelievably horrific 12% from 3. During that span he has averaged 4 rebounds and 2.8 assists. A real stat sheet stuffer!

All kidding aside, this is major D1 college basketball, not 8th grade. If he isn't producing then the coach needs to either figure out why and correct it or go to the next man up. If we don't have a next man up, well that's a problem. I think Williams can be that guy, maybe Hill, but it's time to figure it out.

The problem with Reaves now is he's entrenched. We do not have a better option until Williams can provide 15-20 minutes a night without turning the ball over a zillion times or transforming our D into a sieve.

Reaves is a facilitator. Might be the best one we have (boy, that's hard to type), but until he improves his shot selection from godawful to decent he's going to continue to derail our offense.

Spot on with this assessment.

I think the answer lies in your second statement. Reaves needs to facilitate more. He has good driving skills when he has an idea of what he wants to do. Plus he is pretty decent at creating contact. I like him much more as a spot up shooter rather than off the dribble.

I like how Williams is coming along, but like you, I don't trust him as a 15-20 minute guy........yet. But he played more under control today and gave some effort of defense.....both of which are noticeable improvements since the start of the season. And if he continues to progress, he should get more time.

You would start Hill over Williams? Interesting, there's a case to be made for both... They are definitely both high-energy athletes.

I like Alondes coming off the bench because of his body and athleticism - when he tightens up defensively it startles whoever he's on and he's forced a few t/o's that way. Much like JB was doing last season when people didn't comprehend his long arms and quick hands. remember how many he caused? Plus I like him more as a spot-up shooter and Hill as a driver although both can also do the other (Hill has had some nice jumpers also and Alondes can go to the hole ... Hill is a better finisher IMO).

ChaChing!

Spacing. Threat. Kids have slumps. Sometimes all year.
He gets the best guard defender every night.

Which means coaches know he’s the one to stop.

We all want him to shoot 40% from deep.

He had an open 8footer our last trip down the floor. Just missed.

Many of you same nay sayers said Kur was a waste. Athlete that couldn’t play.
Waste of scholarship etc...

Same was said about Williams. JUCO sucks. He’s a d2 juco. Lon is an idiot for taking a lower level juco. Etc....

What has been said about Kur deals with Kur. What was said about Williams deals with Williams. Neither pertains to Reaves because they are different players in their own right. Each example qualifies as separate and distinct.

This is definitely an indication that he should be a first team All-American and a lottery pick in the NBA draft! I bet he will be a perennial all-star too and get inducted into the NBA hall-of-fame on the first ballot!

I still think Reaves is a top 3-4 player on the team. I just feel he needs to come off the bench or get his minutes cut for a game or 2 just to send a message about shot selection, turnovers, & defense. See if he responds like Harmon, Kur, & Williams have.

That’s a good win, I thought OU played pretty well. Low scoring game because both teams play at a slower pace. Thought OU got in the paint and made good decisions, rebounded well, & executed wrinkles well.
