I received an email about this game. It contained the following info:

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

· Oklahoma (5-1) plays the second of three straight home games when Oral Roberts (6-2) visits Lloyd Noble Center tonight at 7 p.m. CT.

· Oklahoma is averaging 79.0 points per game after averaging 66.0 last season. OU has scored at least 80 points three times in its six outings. Last year, it scored 80 or more four times in 32 games. The 79.0 points-per-game figure ranks 37th nationally out of 338 Division I teams.

· After averaging 3.0 points in OU’s first two games, sophomore guard Cameron Clark is averaging 13.5 points over the last four contests. He scored 11 points against both Washington State and Santa Clara two weeks ago in Anaheim, netted 14 in the 76 Classic championship game against Saint Louis and scored a season-high 18 last Friday against Sacramento State.

· The Sooners’ pressure defense under new head coach Lon Kruger has boosted the team’s offense through six games. Opponents have averaged 16.5 turnovers, resulting in an average of 18.5 points per contest for OU on the other end of the floor.

PREVIEWING ORAL ROBERTS

· After losing its first two games of the season at West Virginia (78-71) and versus Texas-San Antonio (78-77), Oral Roberts has reeled off six straight victories. The Golden Eagles used a 16-2 run over the final 4:28 to win 61-55 this past Saturday at home against Southern Utah in their Summit League opener. Their five starters each average at least 29.5 minutes per game.

· A heavy favorite to win the Summit League (it received 27 of 32 first-place votes in the conference’s preseason poll), ORU is outscoring its opponents by 8.1 a game (70.4-62.2) and is outrebounding them by an average of 6.9 boards. Oral Roberts had five players named to the first or second All-Summit League preseason teams. Senior forwards Dominique Morrison and Michael Craion were first-team picks.

· Head coach Scott Sutton is 229-157 (.593) in his 13th year as a collegiate head coach, all at ORU. He is the school’s career wins leader.

Not sure what to make of that statistic, but very surprising. Haven't noticed it much this year, but I remember one season, Taj and Bookout were like #1 and #2 in the conference in offensive boards and Kelvin [sort of joking] saying our best shot was a miss and the put-back or something to that effect.

Does any known what kind of money does a school like ORU pays a head coach?

ULSA, Okla. -- Oral Roberts University head basketball coach Scott Sutton has agreed to a seven-year contract extension, school officials have announced.

The announcement came less than a week after Sutton withdrew from consideration for the Wichita State job.

ORU officials approached him about an extension before the Wichita State job came open, Sutton said.

"It's exciting," he said. "It shows the commitment that [athletic director Mike Carter] and [ORU president Richard Roberts] have for myself and my staff, and we're obviously very thankful to them."

Terms of the agreement were not released, but Sutton's current contract is believed to pay him between $200,000 and $250,000 per year.

So, probably somewhere a little bit north of that.

I have no idea if our ranking on the offensive boards will continue when we face bigger and better teams? Frankly, I doubt it. But I do know that I like what I have seen lately in terms of a much improved commitment to going after rebounds and loose balls. It's obvious that every player on this team has bought into LK's philosophy about playing hard in every phase of the game. I didn't expect them to do it this early in the season.

Judging by this quote, Scott Sutton didn't expect it either:

“They're a lot further along than I anticipated,” Sutton said. “I'm sure the talent level isn't where Coach Kruger and the staff wants it to be as far as depth. But their guys are playing extremely hard, they're playing very fast and are playing with a lot of confidence.

“They get after you on the defensive end and do a great job attacking the glass. The three biggest keys are we have to get back in transition, we have to hold our own on the boards and we have to handle their pressure. That's one area we have to improve.”
