Ok this is the OU team I thought we'd see ALL YEAR. Even if we lose this one, as long as we COMPETE like we have all first half I'll feel better. If we'd played like this the last several games we would have been able to beat SDSU, Florida, and UALR. Ortiz is playing the way she needs to all game all year long. Hopefully she doesn't disappear the 2nd half. If only we could get our other two seniors going, that's the problem - only one can play well at one time! Fingers crossed we pull this one out, it would be a big moral booster and maybe save our season. IDK why Williams isn't playing, if Simpson is, everyone should get PT.

And Penso, dang girl! She's doing everything but score!

I spoke too soon. Manning becomes her old self and missed I think 3 open layups, makes a couple steals only to dribble into the middle of nowhere and then throw the ball away. Why is a 6th year senior making such idiotic mistakes like this, on a consistent basis? Can anybody explain it??

And it looks like Ortiz has disappeared again.

Good win for the girls. Very few turnovers and better shooting, especially by gabby. Except for ft. That kind of ft shooting will get you beat a lot of nights. But a very nice win against a ranked team.

The maddening thing about OU WBB is the switch from an inept, lack of effort game (s), to an outstanding effort like today. Makes you wonder

It helps when someone is hitting shots. Good game from everyone. Now, we know why Sherri wanted Penzo. She is a good floor leader, even with zero points. Good rebounds, assists, and defense. The defense took South Florida away from their game. A few of their shots were just pure luck, hitting a three while falling down at the first quarter buzzer. Good play at both ends.

Good win for the team, I hope this will turn the season in the right direction... Penzo does have some skill with passing, but she allows a team to play 5 on 4 if she’s not going to look to score.

Just watched the recorded game. That was the best performance I’ve seen out of OU in years. Penzo amazing leader. Gabbi our of her mind. Sherri substituted perfectly. Happy for fans, players, coaching staff.

Where has this OU been?

The difference was Penzo. I’m not saying she should play every second her limitations are evident- but her effort was contagious today. When your a good teammate your not gonna sit and watch a player just put effort you and that is what and who Penzo is. She has been giving her effort from the bench for the past few years now she got the opportunity to give it on the floor for impactful minutes and she capitalized.

No you don’t win without gabbi shooting lights out but i think Penzo also sparked gabbi. Call me crazy but today was good. I thought shot selection was good other than Maddie still some of her shots seem like easy makes which lets you know she isn’t sure of what to do with it. Other than that and Ft was a pretty solid game

Happy for the win.
It seems to me that Maddie and Gabby have periods where they lose focus and are on something like automatic. Love Llanusa.

I've been calling for SC to play the same 5 most of the game, allow the women to get a rhythm with each other. Today, SC played the starters most all of the game.

A shout out SC for starting Penzo. Not the most athletic, not the quickest, not a good shooter, but I thought she changed the entire dynamic of the team. First, she hustles. Second, she plays the point in a way this team needs, distributing the ball. Some teams need this kind of player because she changed it from 5 individuals to a team.

I we could make free throws and layups, this game would not have been close.

Shout out to Vivi too for playing a lot of minutes despite being double and triple teamed underneath.

Congrats to the women. The way you played with intensity this afternoon, it's easy to cheer you on win or lose.

I agree. If only our seniors could stay focused. Maddie is the biggest disappointment in that area. She's been here 6 years after all, should be the toughest player mentally, but appears to be the weakest. Our two good freshmen are spark plugs for us! If at least two of our three good seniors can be consistent like Ortiz and Vivi were today I think we may have a chance in some big games. Still waiting for Ana to let loose scoring.

Worked very hard on defense the second half. Hope they play with that intensity each game.

Llanusa hasn't been a good three point shooter this season. wasn't she a good shooter in high school? Is she pressing too much or will she be more of a slasher?

I think Llanusa was about a 33% three-point shooter. But, I can't find any stats. I also thought she was about 75% from the line. Isn't doing either right now. But, I did see one blurb that said she was 52% from the field, and she isn't doing that. I think she is pressing a bit.

I watched her in the semi-finals against Muskogee, and she scored from everywhere. I also saw the finals last year when they won it, and she hit for about 28. But, I think she only hit one or two threes. Had 26 or 28.

I was more pleased with the rest of her game today. She settled in to play solid defense and get some boards. That is growth over what we had seen. She and Shaina had been having difficulties on defense. In highschool, I watched Llanusa be used as anything from a point to a post. She was a solid rebounder.

South Florida was #16 in both polls, #14 in the realtimerpi. OU was #104. South Florida fell to #26 while OU gained to #67.

When OU last went to the Final Four, one of the starters was Jasmine Hartman who didn't score much more than Penzo. She was all about defense.

One of the reasons that our offense worked yesterday was that we did exactly what Sherri had complained we hadn't been doing. With Penzo at the point, we passed the ball around quickly, and reversed it on almost every series. It left opportunities. Gabbi kept getting open looks. It was also interesting that Vivi was able to catch all of the passes. Although she had five turnovers, they were after the catch. I don't remember Penzo bouncing it in to her once. Somehow, it also seemed to improve the defense of Llanusa.

The five who started played outstanding defense. All five starters played at least thirty minutes as we only played Shaina ten minutes, Mandy seven,, and EJ one. Eighteen bench minutes (eight points). The starting five must be fairly well-conditioned.

We aren’t going to have a single player going off for 31 every game, so let’s be calm about.

Everything came together perfectly Saturday. It was a solid performance by four players and an out-of-this-world performance by one.

Consistency is now the key. We have seen what this team isn’t and what it could be. It is up to the players and staff to try to repeat this performance. The players now understand what it takes, especially the freshmen. They will have to lead us.

It was a great all- around win. Now, do it again.

Exactly. This is not new. In the last 4 years or so, this has been the norm. I truly do not think these young women do not want to win or put forth the effort. However, they have not had three or so players who were consistently good, not great, but good to prevent games such as we have seen this year. I like Maddie but I never thought it was a good idea for her to come back; not for her and not for the team. However, I truly hope I am wrong. And please tell me we are looking for juco transfers that can play next semester.

Just hoping we do not lose Pellington and Llanusa at the end of the year. And that Pellington can get that other Canada player up here.

We really NEED new blood in the staff. Not talking of firing Coale, but bringing in an up and comer who can coach and has enthusiasm and brings something different to the table than Coale and the rest of the staff. Not saying what they bring is bad, saying something is missing.
