OU vs TCU

As poorly as we played in the first half, we never doubted we could win.

As well as TCU played, they didn't have confidence that they could win. When we made our run, they choked.

Did something happen to Gabbi? I couldn't watch the game.

I really like Manning she can do a little bit of everything, drive, shoot, rebound, pass... And she plays with effor often, maybe Sherri could try using her in a 6th man role one game and see how it goes.
Even the TV announcers indicated that it was Maddie who kept us in the game in the first half. Until that late run, Treece hadn't done anything right during her minutes---missed rebounds, didn't stop the person she was guarding, missed shots, bad passes. Suddenly, everyone on the team caught fire. We had hands everywhere, and it was resulting in some easy layups and short open shots.

We never did get going inside like we did last year. On the score sheet, it looks like we dominated the paint. We really had trouble shooting over them, and we needed to hit those short ones because we weren't hitting our threes. We were five of twenty-one from three.

We slept through about two and a half quarters. When we woke up, it was enough. TCU collapsed. They hit absolutely nothing late. TCU was two of twelve in the fourth quarter. They had four turnovers in the fourth quarter. They also had ten fouls, only eight of which were in the last minute after we got an eight point lead.

Gabbi was one of five from the field with two turnovers and zero assists. She had one rebound and one steal. The player that she was guarding was open much too often. Until the fourth quarter, neither T'Ona nor Gabbi was playing well. But, T'Ona guarded her man, which was often Zahna. I think Zahna was something like five of nine in the first half, and about two of ten in the second half.

Gabbi has an advantage in that she can score. But, during the run at the end of the game, TCU was playing such ineffective defense that T'Ona was getting open underneath for layups. She was also four of nine from the line. She ended up with ten points because of effort.

I'm not convinced that all of TCU's 'blocked shots' on KK weren't fouls.

Did TCU have 7 3's at halftime? They ended up with 8/16 for the game.

I think the officials were letting both teams play. We just didn't take advantage of it in the first half. We were soft inside. When we began our run, we could have been called for some fouls on those steals by T'Ona. But, they didn't call them either.

I think Kay Kay thought she could just go over them like she did last year. She used the up and under move once that I remember, and I think it got blocked, too. She wasn't getting her position before the catch, and that is essential to Kay Kay.

I don't really know why but comeback wins are my favorite. Just something about looking down and out only to shift to another gear and blow by the opponent.

It really amazes me this board here. Everyone complains about talent then they want to sit our most talented player and let her come off the bench. Lol That run was not due to the addition of McKenna Treece, it was due to the emergence of Tt who Should be starting next game.

But If u think that Maddie Manning should not start over McKenna Treece then you have lost your marbles. She literally does everything but average 15 a game, yet. Treece might deserve some pt- but not 1 minute to the exspense of Maddie, she's our best player! There is a lot more to basketball then individual scoring totals, let's start to soak that in- please.

We won because of Treece, Edwards and Wyatt. They hustled when the team needed it.

I have no idea what is going on with Gabbi and Peyton, but they clearly aren't playing as well as we saw them play a year ago. Maddie is very inconsistent.

I think I'd start the next game with all 3 on the bench. Edwards, Wyatt and Carter would start with Kay Kay and Treece. Sometimes players need to watch the game, get a feel for what to do by watching rather than playing. Peyton and Gabbi may be the best players, but they aren't playing like it.

Glad we won tonight. Coaching staff has their work cut out to get this group playing to their potential.

If you are basing your starters on tonight's game, I wouldn't start Carter. Little wasn't a superstar but she still had 15 points and caused some turnovers.

Sanity?

Carter is 1 of 6 from the field, 0 for 2 from three. She has three rebounds, three fouls, one assist, one steal, and four turnovers. She also has two points. By now, she has almost as much time as Penzo, and Penzo has outscored her 12-2, and out-rebounded her 9 to 3. So, you want to start Carter? I think it looks like red-shirting her might be the best option. She just isn't ready.

I think we may see more of T'Ona until Gabbi settles down. But, our best five right now are the starters. T'Ona is offensively handicapped. It didn't show tonight because TCU is a running offense. They like to play in the open court, which is an advantage to T'Ona. Not everyone plays like TCU, maybe West Virginia.

There is a reason they say "Defense wins Championships" you have to preach it every second on the floor. Shooters don't stop shooting even if they are 5/25 but if you play D it can get you out of a bad shooting night. T is just an up tempo player she isn't a good shooter but she can work on that. You can't teach effort and I thought Sherri did a great job of knowing what she could get out of which kids this particular game. There is a reason colleges get 15 scholarships and tonight it was good OU had some kids Sherri felt good to go to - sign of a team no superstars yet but good team. Your chances are better IMO with that for now.

Big come back win. Looked grim there in the 3rd QTR.

The real concern is game over game not getting a lot of consistency from some starters etc.

If Treece is developing into a true stretch 4 then you have to start playing her more.
Maybe Manning's minutes should be coming at the expense of the other wing spots.

This question seems silly but is Ortiz athletic to be an All Big 12 PG?
Anyone know any shooting funk buster rituals for Little to try?

As far as starters I think it varies depending on your match up. Baylor just was too big they took KK out of the game. That is when you use a Treece or V in line up. Maddie KK and Peyton are most efficient kids but you have gabbi or t you have V or McKenna to add to them plus you have Wyatt and the hope of a good comeback from Carter.

I agree, Sherri did a really good job tonight. T'ona isn't a good shooter but, IMO, she is our best defender and she's good in transition. She is extremely quick so Sherri can put her on quick offensive players. It will be interesting to see T'ona go against McCarty.
