OU vs. Texas Tortilla Throwers

Game recap...

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Oklahoma women’s basketball team made a big comeback Tuesday night, but it wasn’t enough in an 88-82 loss to Texas Tech in the regular-season finale for both teams.

The Sooners, who trailed by as many as 21 points in the second half, went on a 32-10 run spanning the last two minutes of the third quarter and first nine minutes of the fourth.

OU took an 80-79 lead on a layup by Madi Williams with 1:14 remaining, but the Red Raiders got the lead back on a basket by Chrislyn Carr with 42 seconds to play and was 7-for-8 from the free-throw line down the stretch to pull out the win.

Ana Llanusa scored 27 points for the Sooners, Taylor Robertson had 21, and Mandy Simpson had a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds.

I just watched the phantom intentional foul at the end of the game (when we we down 1) in the highlight video on Soonersports.tv. It's insane that they let this kind of inept officiating continue in women's basketball. This team has a lot of problems (24 turnovers from our starting 5 alone?!? YIKES) but for them to fight and claw all the way back only to have the game taken from them in the final seconds is disappointing.

This team needs more height badly. That can't be disputed. But for so many posters here to act like Mandy Simpson is a bump on a log who has to be benched forever in order for us to have any success is very unfair. 11 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals is a stat-line that I will take from the 4-spot in our starting lineup any day.

I hope we can get one more win against TTU, play Baylor tough, and then let the season end mercifully.

So who’s going to beat us next?

Doesn't really matter the 2nd round game for either team. Best case scenario for both Oklahoma and OSU is a first round win. No postseason for either team this year; that is absolutely crazy. Been a bad year for Oklahoma basketball teams in general even with Oklahoma men likely sneaking into the NCAA.

Syb, that was probably one of her top five best games of the year, if not the top game.

As I’ve said, if Mandy hag the talent and height to match her grit, competitiveness and work ethic, we’d be just fine at the 5.

I’m not saying anything bad about that kid. She works her butt off every single second she’s on the court.

29! 29! almost 30 turnovers against one of the worst teams in the league! Thats coaching and it just goes on and on. Tramel was asked if Sherri and Colton would get a raise. His bet is they will!

The may get a base raise because of their contracts, but they sure as Hell aren’t getting any bonus pay for yearly achievements.

Since OU and Tech meet once again at 6 p.m. tonight in the Big 12 tournament, ok if I just post the preview in this thread? From Eric Bailey...

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma’s women’s basketball team enters the weekend with new life.

Forget the Sooners’ 8-21 record and that they are destined for their first losing season since 1997-98, which was Sherri Coale’s second year as coach.

All of the focus is on OU’s Big 12 Tournament first-round game against No. 9 seed Texas Tech at 6 p.m. Friday at Chesapeake Energy Arena.

“Conference tournaments are fun,” Coale said Wednesday after practice. “It’s an opportunity for us to continue to grow and get better. And for at least a little bit here, the slate is wiped clean. Obviously some people are in a better position than others, but we have an opportunity to go win four games and that’s exactly what we’re thinking.”

The eighth-seeded Sooners will lean on sophomore Ana Llanusa and freshman Taylor Robertson.

Ok, but what happened to "it's our goal to win the NC every year"? Now it's down to looking forward to a fresh start in the conference tournament. Really? But I suppose when one does not prepare/recruit/coach/develop/plan/hire for success...this is what you get. Yippee! Let's HOPE we can win 4 conference games versus teams we have not been able to consistently compete against and/or defeat all season! Now that we can take to the bank!

Edit: How about just sticking to one game at a time? Figure that out first before you envision the days of yester years of cutting down nets.

I predict another loss unfortunately. I hope not. But would we rather end the season at the hands of Tech, or a thumping by Baylor?

This has been the longest season I've followed to date, and I'm not even excited about next season, which I usually always am. Sad days.

Give me that Tech thumping now and more time for the powers that be to consider their ways...right the ship before it takes a Navy excavation crew to bring the program back to surface. Plus, I'd rather be shot with hot coal (no pun intended) than watch Mulkey do the winner walk to the handshake with SC. I know she wants to talk stuff to SC and say, "So where are your post players now? What was that about picking poison? Ain't so much fun when the rabbit/bears have the gun!"

We are getting absolutely destroyed in the paint. Sherri calls time out and lights into Robertson for lack of a rebound... Anyone else find it ironic she yells at the guards and ignores the posts lack of rebounding or defense?

I think I would agree. One game isn't going to make a heck of a difference in the morale on this team. Looks like it's developing that way practically letting them score at will right now with absolutely no defense. This kind of play against Baylor would mean a 50-point loss. Just don't know what exactly SC expected to happen this year with 5'11" posts running around. And then just giving up on players with the most potential on your team. 8 wins in one season is something I would never see happen at OU again. My goodness.

I literally just laughed out loud because Simpson had the ball picked out her hands like it was nothing by Sanders. This happens to her at least once a game. She's so lazy with her hands. She can't shoot a jump shot, she rebounds simply out of sheer luck in my opinion too. she's not this prolific rebounder like everyone says, she's no Nina Davis. And this is the type of player SC values and sees us the future of our program and we questioned why we can't win?!

Agreed. Our lack of a center is embaressing. There are mid major teams with better centers than ours. There is no excuse for it.

Chelsea Dungee had 31 points for the second consecutive game, including 13-13 at the free throw line in the SEC Tourney, as Arkansas upset #12 South Carolina 95-89.

She only brushed her teeth twice a day at OU, Sherri simpley had it with her.

At Rice, Mulkey is averaging 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks in 26 minutes a game.

She obviously would be of no help to our defense this year or anything else.

I think Rice likes her point total on the Rice system, but of no use to us.
