OU WBB Discussion & Thoughts

Not real happy about the start time, add in that its spring break so most students are gone, crowd will be small unfortunately

The only students at a women’s basketball game are the players, band members, and the cheer squads. Maybe a handful more.

Has attendance at women's games been sparse this season? Surprised if so.
LSU drew a good crowd. Tennessee and one other was decent. Rest was sparse. Non conference games usually are small, but this years non conference schedule was terrible except for North Carolina State and possibly Belmont.

Interesting graphic! Would be nice if we would up our spending but my guess with the men getting extra funding, the women will not.

I would think that the new AD would make sure BOTH programs were competitive in NIL, if possible. We are still nowhere near the top in recruiting classes, and our portal classes. Fingers crossed we see something different on account of Denny!

The men are at the bottom of the SEC in spending apparently. The women are not. That’s my thinking on why they won’t get a substantial increase.

Not necessarily. This will be the first year of full payout from SEC. I expect it will be at least $30M more than the best year we ever had in the big 12. Certainly some of that money will be spent on all of the sports.

Have checked out Michigan State who we will probably have to beat to reach the Sweet 16.

They are a high scoring team that averages 83 points a game and shoot 37% three pointers vs our 29%. They start players who are 6-3, 6-3, 6-1, 5-8, 5-9. Three seniors and 2 sophomores. No frosh among players getting meaningful minutes. They only get 35 rebounds a game vs our 49. They come into the tournament with a 22-8 record. Thier starters all score from 10-15 points a game. They average 13 turnovers a game to our just over 16. They get 29 points a game from their top 4 reserves. We get 16.5 from our top 4.

They have wins over over (NCAA seedings in parenthes) Ole Miss (5), Minnesota (4), Washington (6), Illinois (7), Oregon (8), USC (9), and Nebraska (11). Their losses are to UCLA (1), Iowa (2), Michigan twice (2), Ohio State (3), Maryland (5), Illinois (7), and Wisconsin (not in tourn).

As a reminder we have wins over South Carolina (1), Alabama (6), Georgia (7), NC State (7), and Tennessee (10). Good clue for why we ended up a 4 seed. That and the score differential against LSU, Texas and Vanderbuilt.

Most of our lossed were to quality teams. UCLA (1), Vanderbuilt (2), LSU twice (2), Texas (1), Kentucky (5) and Ole Miss (5). It didn't help that our blowout loss to LSU ended the regular season.

We have to really guard the three point line, take good shots and rebound. Our depth will be tested as I expect them to play fast.

I agree. MSU is no team to be overlooking. Van Slooten is their stud, and is a versatile 6'3 forward. I think MSU is supposed to be known for their defense, but i could have gotten that from their team last season. I watched them play UCLA and they didn't really impress me, but with the way our girls can throw away the ball, really any team that can play solid and within themselves, and hang with us scoring-wise is capable of having a shot. I hope this rest has really rejuvenated our girls and they are ready to go out and play their tails off and make it to at least back-to-back Sweet 16 trips!

I caught an interview with the new AD yesterday and he made a point to say that he's not only going to help increase the men's NIL, but also the women's and that we have a good thing going with Chavez and he doesn't want our forward momentum to stall on account of us not having who we need to have on our roster to compliment her. It's around the 3:44 mark in this video...It sounds promising to me!
