Pastner agrees to extension with Memphis

Yes, it's true.

According to this poster, OU called him right after Capel was fired and Pastner wasn't interested. The poster alluded to some things done wrong by OU with that contact. Then after Buzz turned us down, we called him again and negotiations were on until today when Pastner signed the extension at Memphis.

We called him twice and from what I understand, whoever was dealing with him made a lot of mistakeas according to the Pastner side.

I'm asking whether we know it's true that he's best friends with Pastner. Why would his best friend put a major deal in jeopardy like that by revealing details of a negotiation on a message board? I have no idea what the track record of this poster is, but I'm not that credulous of stuff like this.

Ok. I'm not buying it. It's not like it's the first time for OU to be hiring a coach. Sorry, but I can't see Joe C. berating anyone for saying no.

No, I don't think that's what happened.

The poster just made mention to OU making a lot of mistakes and said at some point once this search is over he would be more specific, but nobody really knows what happened but Pastner and the OU rep (Joe or Martin).

Maybe Pastner is looking for excuses to tell his buddy why he wouldn't take the job?

As frustrated as I am with Joe I know he's 100% class so I can't see him berating anybody.

maybe joe c wasnt the one on the phone at that point in time. Only a few people know what was said and what paster didnt like. None of them are on this board

I seriously doubt Joe C. is leaving this hire in the hands of someone who has never hired a coach before, or someone who would berate a coach for saying no. Even if Joe wasn't on the phone, I'm extremely confident in suggesting that whoever was has significant experience, professionalism, and understanding of how this process works, which is why he or she works in the OU Athletic Department in the first place.

Good question. He says they are best friends. He said Pastner got him bench passes for the Tulsa regional. I think he grew up with Pastner in Houston.

Regardless, he had a pulse of what was happening with Pastner. He posted Pastner was going to re-sign with Memphis before it was known nationally, so he knows somebody close to Pastner if not Pastner.

I am too, but he was the first to say pastner was resigning and he was right there. he seems to have solid info

Of course this is the same rivals poster that said Karl Hobbs was signing contracts to be OU's next coach the night Capel was hired
