Who has really researched Buzz's buyout? All I have heard are wild guesses by anonymous message board people. I would be extremely surprised if it is more than one year's salary. Every coach has a dream job. I don't know what Buzz's dream job is but I am pretty sure that it is not Marquette. One would know that by understanding how he got there.
He was the head coach at the University of New Orleans right after Katrina. The school would not even reimburse coaches for recruiting trips. So Buzz quits and becomes an assistant at Marquette just to escape. When Crean left for Indiana, Buzz stared to follow him but Marquette asked him to stay. So his being there is kind of accidental to start with.
New Orleans sued Buzz over his $300,000 buyout. Marquette stepped up and finally paid the buyout for him. This may create a sense of loyalty to Marquette because they have treated him good. But his buyout problem with New Orleans would lead me to think he would not want that to stand between him and his dream job so I doubt he would agree to a really high one. I think we are getting disinformation from someone.
The real issue with Buzz will be whether or not we are closer to his dream job than Marquette.
