Penn State

I truly question what is in Paterno's heart. How could he allow this to happen. He clearly knew. I personally think it is pertty clear he knew of at least two cases, 1998 and 2002 yet he did nothing. I suspect he knew more.

You can't be Joe Paterno and have an investigation into your top assistant coach going on in 1998 and not know about it. It happened at your facilities. It involved your franchise. It directly impacted your life. When it put in your face again 4 years later, how do you characterize it as hoarsing around in the shower. Why aren't you asking what the hell does hoarsing around in the showers mean?

I think you're absolultely right. Sandusky graduated from Penn State. He's been at Penn State almost as long as JoePa and JoePa had him as his DC. It's clear at Penn State they've hidden everything wrong in Happy Valley under the rug (also Rene Portland, former women's basketball coach). All of these events have occurred under the current president. Such a sad state at a major university!

Breaking news joe paterno has been fired from penn state

Kudos to the trustees. Joe made a horrible mistake not making this move for them. He put himself above the University and the kids and his reputation will be forever damaged.

it sounds like they called Joe and told him he is no longer head coach for Penn State

I think it's pretty clear what the answer to that is. Penn State football. Nothing else. That is all he ever did with his life. If it didn't directly impact him or his team, he didn't care.

Penn State's students now making complete fools of themselves...smh

they know that he will not coach on Saturday get over your self and move on

Exactly! Except this time the mistakes Paterno made had nothing to do with calling a play from the sidelines. This was about the welfare of 8 (and now they're saying there could be as many as 17) young boys, who may never be the same. Their lives have been forever changed by a sick, perverted scum bag assistant coach and adults who cared more about football than what these kids were going through.

It's good to know that someone at Penn State is FINALLY doing the right thing!

i heard that a note was delivered to his house with a phone number to call. And the person at the phone number told him he was fired. Crappy way to fire a guy that had been there for that long but I don't feel sorry for him at all.

Also, is the GA still an employee there or have they fired him? If i walked in on a man raping a kid, I wouldn't tuck tail and run, I would beat his ass

Did you guys know Stoops was hired at OU 1 year younger than Paterno at Penn St?

The 2002 event would occur in 2036 in Stoops years. A quarter century from now!!!

It's a medically scientific proven fact the mind begins to slow down between 30-40 years old. Paterno should have been forced out 15 years ago. No way anybody over 70 should be in charge of 19-22 year olds on a regular basis. At best Joe's mind is operating at 50%.

It's not only problem obviously, but if Joe was gone at age 70 none of this would have ever happened. My disgust towards him has waned when I really look at the numbers. Heck the average male has been dead for 5 years at Joe's age.

If Switzer and Paterno had been hired in the same year then Switzer would've resigned, relatively speaking, in June of.......1982!

Incredible.

You mean Paterno would have been out in 1982 right? That's how incredible it is.

Joe's done way more good than bad in his life. The trustees who let him go last night were 15-20 years late. Can't blame him for holding on for dear life. Heck he was even trying yesterday which shows how out of touch he is.

if the officials at PSU let this go on, what else have they covered up?

I was saying Switzer coached 16 seasons and that he retired just before his 17th. If he had signed on the same year as Paterno he would've already been gone in June of 1982. That's the month I was born!

When the smoke clears, the message from this is that having an 80 year old in charge of 20 year olds is not much different than having a 16 year old in charge of them.

I'm not sure about mandatory retirement, but above 70 should be a no go for being in charge of youngsters.

We saw Bowden, sitting up in his bird-nest detached from practice. If they are detached from football practice which is their main job, how far removed are they away from everything else?

I hardly ever disagree with you, but Paterno had relatively few problems with the 20 year old kids in his program and a major problem with a middle age defensive coordinator and presumably life-long friend. When the smoke clears the message from this will be that a sadistic serial rapist was allowed to prey on children on the campus of Penn State and nobody appeared too eager to do anything about it, including Joe Paterno, who went from being one of the most respected people in sports, to one of the most reviled.

Oh, and to the poster who was wondering why the GA wasn't kicking the crap out of Sandusky, excellent point.

Paterno's lack of action had nothing to do with his age. If anything, an older person should be more aware of the horrible consequesces of Sanduskey's actions for the boys. Paterno just thought more of the consequences to himself than the consequences to the boys.

No doubt. I have 70 yr old grandparents and concerned citizens calling me and my co-workers everyday, letting us know about kids who are being molested, abused, and neglected by 20 something yr old parents. I love Boca, and he is always one of my favorite posters, but IMO, he totally missed on this one.....
