Per Justin Hite AK CAN redshirt

From a purely basketball point of view, he should redshirt.

To be honest, if he is able to play and have an impact at all then this is an all hand on deck kind of season. We're trying to accomplish big things.

Agreed 100%. Same if Freeman can help the team win 2nd semester. Got to go for the gold.

Agreed, providing AK is able to return completely healthy no later than the second half of the season. If not, I would rather see him redshirt.

Freeman is a different story. I don't like the idea of seeing him burn an entire year to play the second half of the season. This team is not hurting for depth, even if AK can't go. Besides, Freeman would almost certainly struggle to fit in, learn the offense, and be a part of the team chemistry, which will be well established by that point of the season.

I think it would be best to use the time from January to the 2016 season as a redshirt year, similar to what Dante did last year.

I would play AK...even if he can't go until Jan1. I would NOT play Freeman. Save him for the future!

Glad that AK has that redshirt year, if needed.

He has missed so much practice time, hard to improve when you can't practice.

I am of the same thinking.

I agree with this.

Was there ever any doubt he could redshirt?

No

The bigger question is "Does he want/willing to redshirt"? He is already older because of his year of prep school and was the #1 ranked juco center. He's also 7' tall. The guy can make some good money even if it's not the NBA. I'm not sure he wants to wait until he's 25 to start playing basketball for money.

He is cleared for full practice but seems to be worrying about the foot. He may want to redshirt. They want to play him because he is bigger than anybody else on the team and has talent. We could do special things this year.

Pattillo part two?

Yes - I wasn't sure. There have been multiple people asking...

He went to HS in 2012 in Duluth Minnesota (Duluth East), but got suspended from playing in the state tournament for smoking as a HS junior. It was against the rules to smoke in the boys home he was living in at the time. He then transferred to Potter's House Christian Academy in Jacksonville Florida for his senior year in 2012-2013 where he made all-state (Graduated the same year Joel Embiid did. They were on the all-state 1st team together). He went to Indian Hills Community College in Indiana in both 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. Now he has transferred to OU for the 2015-2016 school year.

He still has 3 years to play 2 if he wants to use a redshirt, but not as many kids redshirt in basketball as football.

If he can help this year. Don't do it!

I don't care if it's just half of conference and post season. If he helps, play him this year

Juan Patillo was a thug and it was known by the basketball world. Capel had no qualms taking guys like him. LK isn't going to do it.

No point in bringing him back if he can't finish the season healthy, if he can great. Adding a pivotal piece in the middle then losing again at a crucial time can be detrimental, changes your entire schematics.

The problem is if he doesn't want to risk it do you really want to force a kid to play when he isn't giving it 100% because he's scared of injury ? This is our year so it should be all hands on deck but if his heart/mind isn't ready to play you'd be better off sitting him. I say this as a big believer in the kind of impact he could have on this team.
