This is an older article from an SMU site regarding PG Roman Young from Buddy's old HS: Sunrise Christian. I see where ESPN says Young has an OU offer. Assuming Pritchard signs with Oregon, Trae goes to Duke or Kentucky, and Jarreau goes to LSU, is Young the next PG in line on the OU board?

2016 point guard talking SMU with Shake Milton
by Dacota Taylor

2016 prospect Roman Young is eager to begin his college career. The 5-foot-10 inch point guard from Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kan. is juggling offers from SMU and Oklahoma, and has a handful of other schools looking at offering in the future. Among the list of schools are Creighton, Wichita State, and Nebraska.

"I like all the schools that are recruiting me, but I'm just trying to enjoy the process right now. Probably this summer or a little later I'll cut the list down."

On the topic of his two offers right now between SMU and Oklahoma, Young was positive about the programs.

"Both SMU and Oklahoma have excellent coaching staffs, they both have an offense where you can get up and down and you can also make plays. The coaches will put you in the best opportunity for the guard spot."

Young spoke highly of the program and Larry Brown, and went into detail on why Coach Brown could be extremely helpful as his head coach.

"I really like Larry Brown. I grew up a KU fan most of my life, and I know a little about him. I've been watching SMU a lot since they've been recruiting me, and one of my good friends Shake Milton is going there soon. Larry Brown knows a lot and can get you to the league because he has those connections and he's one of the best coaches at the DI level that can get you ready and get you to the league."

Milton, who committed to SMU in November, was one of the first people Young talked to about SMU when the Mustangs came calling for the Kansas point guard.

"He said it's a good opportunity and we should probably link up."

With a little more than a year left in his high school days, Young is taking in as much basketball as possible to improve his game and pick up as many offers as he can before he decides.

"I'm watching everyone. Every game I get a chance to see I soak the game in and learn their stuff. I'm just watching and learning."

Young is a 2017, so we won't know about him to move on something this year.

Looks like this kid has no bearing on what we're going to do for next season.

Every web site I have been on says he's a 2016 recruit. Did he reclassify?

Here's a mix tape video for anyone who may not be familiar with Roman:

As an aside, I read on one site where he said his good friend, Shake Milton, had been instrumental in recruiting him to SMU. I thought one of the reasons Shake picked the Ponies is that he wanted to play the point. If that's the case, why in the heck would he want a kid like Young, who is too small to play any position except the point, to join him at SMU?

Young is a 2017 grad but we really need a point guard in the 2016 class. All the other PG's I mentioned are 2016 players (PP, Young, and Jarreau).

Woodard graduates in 2017 but it would be nice to (1) have a backup for him his senior year, and (2) have the player adjust to high D1 basketball for a year before he takes the reins from Woodard. A Juco (Darrion Strong or Donovan Jackson) would be fine to bridge the gap if we had a decent chance at Trae in 2017.

Moving on, you bring up a good point about Shake wanting to play PG. However, he knows he needs a backup and Young doesn't seem to be on any school's A list, so I doubt he's much of a threat to Shake for playing time.

I think a few guys are getting their Youngs mixed up - Roman Young is a 2016 guy. Trae Young is a 2017 guy...

I may be one of them. When I responded to JBaker's post, I know now that he was talking about Trae Young. I thought he meant Roman Young, the topic of this thread. I didn't realize my friend, JBaker, switched to another horse without telling me. ;)

Doh, I meant Trae Young. I probably should have realized I was posting it in a thread about another recruit named Young.:facepalm
