Capel had a Senior laden team this year....the top three scorers were all seniors. Also, the ACC was darn near historically bad from an advanced metrics standpoint......they were the 6th/7th best conference depending on which site you can reference. Thus Pitt/Capel took advantage of a "way down" conference and scraped together enough wins to make the tournament. They did win a couple of games this past week, so they get credit for that. With all that being said, I'm not ready to say he is a good coach yet. This was his 5th year at Pitt and this is the first time he finished over .500 both in the league and overall. I expect them to regress back to the mean next year.
Nobody is saying Jeff Capel is a good coach. Just using some parallels to show that Porter Moser, historically, has also not really been a good coach either.
