Porter to.........Villanova???

Moser leaving needs to happen SOON so we can go find our new HC and start the Portal process, before others get their picks before we're even in the game.

McCollum is a good example. He will probably be on the move once his team loses. Not sure if that is who OU would target, but I haven't seen his name mentioned at places that OU cannot compete with. But we can't offer him a job if we still have Moser. So hopefully it happens fast. I worry the timing of Maryland losing may hold it up, putting us behind the 8 ball.
Lol, OU is already behind the 8 ball in terms of portal management regardless of any personnel move they make.

That is a great demonstration of their lack of basketball knowledge. Quite frankly, outside of Josh with football, it's just a couple random dudes shooting the **** at the bar.
They have some sources into the program IMO especially Eddie (with FB) but yes, the actual substance is pretty poor haha.

Lies. Myth. Rumor.

OU obviously has been scouting, as there are players in the Portal that have already heard from OU.

How many basketball teams have a true GM in place? Does Drake? Does New Mexico?

If a basketball coach can't coach his team and keep up with 13 scholarships, he isn't a very good coach. Wasting money on a GM in basketball is not a good use of resources. It will probably happen, but it's not going to have some huge impact. Heck, Georgia football doesn't even think it's necessary for their football program, and they are at the top of the football world.

But sure, OU is SO FAR behind because we don't have a GM. Good grief.

Next years likely a wash regardless..

Lol, lies, myths, RUMORS! Never change.

My main point is that we’re more far behind because our NIL budget is 30% of what other competitive P5 schools are throwing out there. You could even take it to mean we’re behind the 8 ball because PM is in charge.

Arkansas/Duke/Michigan/Tech/Kentucky have GMs, according to your technique of pulling random schools still in the tournament to make some point I have more examples!

GOOD GRIEF indeed lol!

They’re not wrong.

I actually had the thought that Iowa might be a Porter destination as well. Definitely more passionate about basketball. Likely could find the funds to put together a competitive NIL. Proximity to Chicago recruiting. And I’m telling you, his reputation in Chicago circles is REALLY GOOD. It’s how he landed Fears.
They might as well have just kept fran than hire pm.. fran wins more than pm does

Exactly precise

From what I've picked up from Trilly's Discord, Iowa has some of the same issues as us: an aging arena and lack of NIL. Ben McCollum (Iowa native) is trying to get them to step up in NIL before he agrees to the job. Devries (another native) was talking to them but chose Indiana.

Ben McCollum worked with Wren Baker (WVU AD) at NW Missouri State and they're tight. WV has a chance to get him.

Iowa would be a good landing spot for Porter. He gets to restart his clock and gets to be closer to Chicago. It's in the B1G...men's hoops are 3rd or 4th at Iowa behind football, wrestling, and possibly women's basketball. It's not a Catholic basketball-first school like he'd want, but it's a good landing spot.

I don't know if I'd go that far, they do have good sources but they're definitely overreacting to Moser's comments after the game last night. All across the country coaches are using the same exact speaking points to try and up the NIL their program needs, for a lot of Football based schools they're all facing the same funding issues for NIL for their bball teams.

If you just listen singularly to what he said it comes off as "he's gone" but for Moser he's gone this route multiple times to try and get more $ ((i.e. Depaul). If he leaves, he leaves but it'll be more about the opportunities that come his way

LOL at comparing us to basically blue blood basketball schools.

That isn't MY goal for OU basketball right now. I'm not trying to go from missing the Dance 3 of the last 4 years to winning a NC or making a FF.

I'm trying to find a path to not going 7-11, 5-13, 8-10, and 6-12 in conference play. I'm trying to find a path towards a team that gets better as the year goes on, not the reverse. A path to consistently being able to win 20-23 games during the regular season. A path to getting back to being in the Dance 80-90% of the time.

Do that for a while and we can talk about what keeps us from competing with Duke and Kentucky (LMAO).

We had NIL for Moore and Fears and a crap load of guys that transferred in. It was just used poorly. You can't pay Moore whatever we paid Moore. Players like him don't win college basketball games for you. But hey, culture wasn't great last year so let's overpay for a guy Moser "trusted".

Time to move on. We could hire Crutchfield (I don't want him) and I'd still bet cash money that the next 4 years would be better than the last 4 years.

Also from trilly's board some fanbases:

Xavier fans - could def talk themselves into Moser
Iowa fan - Moser is not overrated, if no McCollum then Moser.
Villanova - Would rather have a young coach than Porter. Porter is a backup backup plan.

My favorite comment - "no one would be **** talking PM if his team could make a f*** layup"
Porter would do well at Xavier. That would be the best of all the possible landing spots for him.

Villanova is a pipe dream. They should be able to do much better than him.

Carver Hawkeye Arena and Lloyd Noble are very similar, actually. Cavernous, old, multi-purpose arenas with no atmosphere.

We won 20 games the last two years. That’s not consistency?

Baylor/BYU/DePaul/Arkansas/Tech are all blue bloods?

I’m sure we paid Fears and Moore NIL money. The aggregate amount is still commonly cited as 30% of what the schools you’re hoping to emulate are doing.

TBC I’m fine with moving past Moser but when one of the board’s standard bearers of this drumbeat is just all caps rhetorical flourishes & Charlie Brown catchphrases, it really gives me a bit of pause haha.
