Porter to.........Villanova???

I'll be honest, I'm seriously bummed that it looks like Moser is going to be here another year. With the same coaching staff. And completely rebuilding his roster again.

This would have been the perfect year to move on from him. Moser could have ridden the minor momentum of a Tourney birth and went somewhere he is a better fit. OU could have rebooted the program with a new coach and a new 3-4 year path. I doubt Moser is here more than 2-3 more seasons at most. The fans aren't going to get behind him next year to start the season, so we'll be having those same discussions. As for Portal recruiting, we won't know anything until SEC games start next season. OU fans were pretty happy with Miles/Elvis/Goodine this past Portal season, but those guys weren't anywhere near good enough as a group.
They just had a season in the SEC, you think they know what the difference in players they need this year. How bout you make your rash judgements until after the portal!!!

This always makes me laugh -- as if anyone who watches the sport, let alone coaches it, isn't aware of the level of athleticism in each league. I said for two years that the SEC is a more athletic league, with more length, than the Big 12. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume our coaches knew that, too. If they didn't, man do our problems run deeper than even I thought.

This also struck me when I would hear people say similar things about needing to up our recruiting in football. Do people think that when we were in the Big 12, we would look at a great player and think, ya know, if we were in the SEC, we would want this guy, but since we are in a weaker league, we will pass on him since we don't need him? I mean, I imagine every program is already trying for the best players they can get.

I think the coaches know. Football and basketball people know. I do think the BMDs and OU admin and leadership foolishly thought what they were doing in the Big12 was fine for the SEC. They didn’t want to admit that they had let the AD stagnate for so long because we were still being successful in the big12. The last few years in the big12 and this transition to the SEC has opened the eyes of some stubborn people. That’s why our NIL and everything was lacking at first and we were playing catch up. I think some things have been corrected and are now in line with what we should’ve been doing all along. Unfortunately for bball, football is first at everything. Football has been and is still being corrected. Bball, hopefully, is also being corrected but it’s coming much slower.

Regardless of the NIL or lack of basketball support, that doesn’t excuse the coaching failures of moser. Will moser be a better coach with better players? I think any coach would get better results with better players. You can overcome coaching with talent. Unfortunately, OU will never get enough talent to overcome moser. We can absolutely do better and not just make the tourney but win in the tourney with moser, but there’s a ceiling there that isn’t present with other coaches. I’m obviously not a moser fan but I will support OU basketball until a change is made.

I blame the ncaa calendar. Makes zero sense
No reason to have the Portal open right now.

For basketball, it's easy. It opens sometime after the NCAA Tournament ends. Let (make?) kids finish the semester at the school they are at, and they can transfer over the summer.

Football is a little trickier. I'd have one Portal, and have it sometime in the Spring. Do away with Spring practices and replace it with summer camps. So the Portal can open in March/April, kids finish the semester, then move on in time to start Summer practices with their new school. It is absolutely insane to have football's Portal open during the CFP's, especially with them being expanded. Makes zero sense.

As long as the kids are still students and expected to go to school/class, I think those are the best options.

Price of poker goes up weekly!
Is that him getting actual offers or his “agent” saying he’s getting a bump? Or all OU players getting a bump in general? Something else? I’m way behind on what’s going on in the world of NIL.

I was wondering the same. He wasn’t a high priced guy a year ago, didn’t get to put any D-1 action on video, and is coming off a major injury. Doesn’t seem to be a recipe for getting a lot of big money offers, regardless of how good he may or may not end up being.
Yeah I really hope it’s not a significant bump

Im fine with Moser coming back one more year, if we are giving him more NIL money. The class coming in is pretty decent. Pair it with getting 2 or 3 really good players in the portal and he will have no excuses not to have a good year.

Yeah would agree, the coaches might be absolutely incompetent but imagine it’s more of relying on second\third choices because athletic talented guys are cost prohibitive. Occam’s razor etc. But the AD/boosters have slow played the transition and thought they could coast on past successes.

Doesn’t mean OU has the long-term answer at head coach or there is a hard ceiling by any means though.

Be interesting with NIL to measure graduation rates with the present against pre NIL.
