I have some time next week. I was hoping to maybe catch a practice. Anybody know what days they are practicing?

Thanks.

In preparation for the trip, the NCAA allows 10 additional preseason practices. OU is tentatively scheduled to practice at Lloyd Noble Center on July 9, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25 and 31 along with August 1 and 2. As with the regular season, all Oklahoma men's basketball practices are open to the public. Practice times and other information are available by calling the basketball office at (405) 325-4732.

Went to practice today. OU has never had a point guard like young. I was trying to think what Ou player he reminded me of and I couldn't come up with any names.

Tell us more, MisterF. What did you like the most about Young? Anyone else on the team impress you?

I can't think of any former ou player that reminds me of Young. I been going to games since Bliss days.

He is fast.
Great shooter.
Great vision
Great passer.
Deceptive.
Was defending hard today.
Quick hands on D.
Wish he was a little bigger. But was bigger than he appeared watching hm on tv during high school ball.

Offensively believe it or not I thought he reminded me of Pete Maravich but smaller.
Maybe the laker rookie Ball. They play similar. Haven't seen Ball that much. So no expert on Ball.

Ou has never has a point guard like this guy.

Brady M is much better than I ever thought he would be. 6'9". Active. Nice shooting touch. Nose for loose balls today. I think he has a chance to play this year meaniful minutes off the bench.

Freeman looks better physically. It will be interesting watching these two battle for minutes.

I thought the team looked like they were a year more experienced. Practicing hard. Executing. Just more confident looking.

I left my house excited for this coming season.

Thanks to Coach for making visitors feel so welcome.

Great report MisterF. I'm happy you're on this board now. I've noticed your posts on SoonerScoop.

You're obviously an old-time basketball fan if you've been going to games since the Bliss days. I went even before that when I was a student graduating in '69. When I was in the Marine Reserves I used to be the radio operator for ex-Sooner coach Bob "Go-Go" Stevens. I watched a lot of the Bliss teams at the Big 8 pre-season tournament in KC every year after I got of college. I loved that tournament.

MisterF thanks for the report. Great that Young is fitting in, but you are at least the second poster who has seen the team who has said Manek has been impressive. So that's a bonus. It seems to me that Manek and Freeman are almost the exact same player(tall, and can shoot from outside, but thin). Maybe the thing that will separate them is rebounding and other intangibles. Hopefully both are getting better at that.

Enjoyed the report, MisterF! I think I speak for everyone here when I say OU BB fans are hungry for any tidbit of information about the team and our players you can send our way. The season can't get here soon enough to suit me.

I was high on Matt Freeman before he arrived on campus. If he's ready for a breakout season, he could be a huge asset this year. The key for him is knocking down shots on a consistent basis.

I'm excited about Brady Manek. Like Freeman, he has unique skills for a guy his size, except he appears to be quicker and more athletic than Matt. Did you get a feel for their ability to rebound and play defense?

Thanks guys.

I don't think Brady M and Freeman are exactly the same players. I think they will be competing for some of the same minutes. Brady seems to like to mix it up inside more than Freeman from what I saw yesterday. Actually thought he was aggressive inside. He liked to go after loose balls.
Freeman likes to be beyond the 3pt line most of the time. Freeman has added some bulk to his buddy. He looks more like a BIG 12 guys physically. I could actually see them on the floor together some depending on the match ups.

James was my biggest concern. Physically he looked stronger also. During the drills he was shooting the ball like what we all remembered from two years ago. But once the scrimmage part of practice started you could see him pressing to make shots. Now I only saw about 15 mins of scrimmage time. Maybe he has shot better in other scrimmages. But I thought you could see the stress on his face. But he was playing real hard on both ends of the court. I think OU really needs him, I hope he gets his stroke back where he is not thinking and just firing.

I also agree about the group of walk ons. High quality group of players. There was a new walking that just showed up Monday. His name was not on the roster.

Also heard yesterday they expect Polla to arrive Thursday next week.

MisterF, does Manek try to score inside, shoot 3s or both? Does he exhibit any post moves? Thanks.

That's about what I expected. Finland's U20 team plays their last pool game tomorrow (Wednesday). They would have be one of the top 2 teams in their pool to advance, and I think they will be 3rd with a 2-2 record. I'm sure he probably booked his flight based on the possibility they might advance.

Arriving next Thursday gives him 3 practices before the team leaves for New Zealand.

I don't recall Brady playing with his back to basket. But he did take shots in the paint. I don't remember him shooting threes. He has a good looking stroke
