Prep Spotlight: Brandon Lucas

Just a quick update on Brandon Lucas. Since the beginning of the year and his Prep Spotlight article, Lucas's recruiting has picked up. He's received inquiries from Southern Methodist University, Sam Houston State University, and San Franscisco University. OUhoops.com also has a new Youtube on Lucas that highlights his expanding game.

Good stuff, Mr. Jennings. I wouldn't mind at all if we signed this kid late.

My fear is that just by looking at the other schools interested, we would be signing him just to use up a scholarship, like a few of the players we signed this year. I don't want to do that if we can save a scholly because 2012 looks to be a lot better class and i would like to get in on the top guys in the early signing period and not have to scramble after the season again.

It's not so much the school interested, but it's the skillset. He's a developmental player. OU signing him wouldn't be bad if they had about 4 top level kids he can develop under. His perimeter skills are the biggest question mark, but always in basketball, those undersized post players go to a school and develop a jumper, develop a dribble drive game, and basically just evolve over time. I suspect he'll go to a mid major and then in two years he'll put up numbers and people will say, "why didn't OU get him." Well the truth will end up being, he would have never evolved as a player if OU got him.
