Even Andy Katz was on his case all year... saying he takes horrible shots all the time..

So the league has 3 players on the first team, none on second or third team.
What does that tell you? I'll try to explain it to you. There are 3 very talented players in the league. After that, not so much talent.

Interesting, then, that AR got the third most votes from the coaches. Also interesting that a league with only three good players is projected to have as many as three teams in the top 10 and another two in the top 25

It's also interesting that projections mean squat.
The Big 12 stunk last season. I project the league to stink again.

If projections from coaches mean squat, I can’t even think of a word to describe your projections. You are right about last year—having the best team in America and another top 5 team was a freaking embarrassment for the league.

the big 12 did not stink last year

it was the second rated league in the country

The preseason Kenpom ratings just came out. Big 12 with five teams in top nine. Clearly the league doesn’t have any talent.

Figured might be a good time to bump this thread in light of the news that Reaves was, indeed, named first team all conference today. Congrats, Austin!

Nobody in their right mind would pick Reaves over Manek. This is a snub for Manek and I don't know what to call it for Reaves.

Guards in the Big 12 this year I would take over Austin Reaves:

Jared Butler (Baylor)
MaCio Teague (Baylor)
Matt Coleman (Texas)
Andrew Jones (Texas)
Cade Cunningham (OSU)
Terrence Shannon (Texas Tech)
Kyler Edwards (Texas Tech)
Tyun-Grant Foster (Kansas)
Marcus Garrett (Kansas)
RJ Nembhard (TCU)
Rasir Bolton (Iowa State)

There are probably others... Look, I hate to say it, but Reaves just isn't that good. At least he wasn't last year. Maybe he turns out to be different this year. I don't like how he plays.... I don't like that Lon lets him do whatever he wants. I don't like that he put up about 30 air balls last year.

If he played more within himself he would be a lot better. He wouldn't average 15 a game, but he would be a more effective player.

He came to OU because he wanted a green light to do his Kobe thing... He all but said that in an interview. He was promised a green light, he got one. He had an insane game against TCU in the finale with a great play, but that doesn't make up for everything else.

this aged well lol

HAHA Classic.. Would you take all those dudes over him still?

this aged well lol

And why I seldom make negative predictions publicly. I give abd credit for always pushing the envelope with his sometimes zany predictions...but we all have to know that if we're going to make a negative prediction about OU or someone on the team, you have to be ready to swallow some crow when that prediction blows up in ones face.

Congrats to Austin Reaves! Well-deserved, young man!
