Has anyone had a similar injury, if so is four weeks expected or could it be sooner?

I think it could be sooner. Its a small operation. His rehab will be the most important part.

What will be hardest is for Buddy to stay off of it so it heals quickly...with Buddy's go-getter attitude, that's going to be difficult.

I know another D1 athlete someone who broke a bone in that area and it is extremely painful, also have to be careful about coming back too soon as you can easily cause a lot more problems down the line if you put too much wear and tear on the area before it's ready.

He broke his 5th metatarsal which is basically the base of his pinky toe. I broke my 4th metatarsal which is the base of the fourth toe. My injury was supposed to take 4-5 weeks with no surgery but I ended up being on crutches for 9 weeks. I was 14 when it happened so i dont know if age was a factor in my recovery being so slow. I did something to my growth plate to because that toe hasnt grown since.

I had the same injury a few years ago, and my doctor wanted to let it heal on its own. I was on/off crutches for nearly a year as it kept re-breaking every time I got off crutches. Finally, I went to a new doc who put a screw in it, and 2 weeks later I was walking with no crutches or boot. 4 weeks after surgery, I was back to running and playing basketball. Granted, not on Buddys level, but still, I have never had a problem since. I can see him playing at 100% in 4-6 weeks easily. Praying for a quick recovery for him.

Broken bone takes 6 weeks to heal properly. Under no circumstance should he be rushed back.

So he'll be back just in time for the second weekend of the tourney. :)
