First, did I miss something. Where is Manyang? Is he hurt, in the doghouse or just not playing. And, why do you guys think he isn't playing. I view him as the best "5" on the squad. Obviously, Lon doesn't and he would know better than I. But, just watching the games, we are better when he is in. Now, it might be that he is lazy in practice, or won't practice, or doesn't get a long with the coaches or something else. Does anyone know what the story is on Manyang? Just wondering.
Second, I am all for scouting reports. if a kid won't normally shoot from outside 18 feet, sag off and don't guard him. However, scouting reports are only good for the first 25 seconds of a shot clock. We continually allow kids that won't normally shoot the 3 to have uncontested shots at the end of shot clocks. We need to contest those shots at that point.
Third, fundamentals fundamentals fundamentals. We have got to quit leaving our feet to pass, we have got to start overplaying people's dominant hand, centering the ball on the break. We are paying a price for mistakes in these areas. And, when you don't have a significant margin and all of your games come down to one or two possessions, these types of mistakes really matter.
Fourth, I don't think we are playing that poorly. Just not hitting shots we hit with more frequency earlier in the year and people just have a lot of tape and know how to play us a little better. We could very easily be undefeated this year with just a point here or there in our losses.
And finally, it looks like the team is mentally worn down to me. What do you guys think. It may be that all of these big showdown nail biters have zombied us. Couldn't blame them if this was the case. Hopefully, we will get our groove back in time for the NCAA.
