First, did I miss something. Where is Manyang? Is he hurt, in the doghouse or just not playing. And, why do you guys think he isn't playing. I view him as the best "5" on the squad. Obviously, Lon doesn't and he would know better than I. But, just watching the games, we are better when he is in. Now, it might be that he is lazy in practice, or won't practice, or doesn't get a long with the coaches or something else. Does anyone know what the story is on Manyang? Just wondering.

Second, I am all for scouting reports. if a kid won't normally shoot from outside 18 feet, sag off and don't guard him. However, scouting reports are only good for the first 25 seconds of a shot clock. We continually allow kids that won't normally shoot the 3 to have uncontested shots at the end of shot clocks. We need to contest those shots at that point.

Third, fundamentals fundamentals fundamentals. We have got to quit leaving our feet to pass, we have got to start overplaying people's dominant hand, centering the ball on the break. We are paying a price for mistakes in these areas. And, when you don't have a significant margin and all of your games come down to one or two possessions, these types of mistakes really matter.

Fourth, I don't think we are playing that poorly. Just not hitting shots we hit with more frequency earlier in the year and people just have a lot of tape and know how to play us a little better. We could very easily be undefeated this year with just a point here or there in our losses.

And finally, it looks like the team is mentally worn down to me. What do you guys think. It may be that all of these big showdown nail biters have zombied us. Couldn't blame them if this was the case. Hopefully, we will get our groove back in time for the NCAA.

CowboySooner, I think AK would be our best option at the 5. I do think it would take a few games for him to get in the groove. He is 7' tall (can't teach that). You, me, and only like 2 other people in the entire fan base share this opinion though. We must be wrong. This team flat out are not playing with the passion they were early in the year. Also, be careful, if your not pumping sunshine about team people "in the know" will come at you crazy.

Manyang is slow of foot which hurts his rebounding and defensive skills. He also never met a pass he liked.

it's kinda that "backup QB is the best QB" thing. We dont know what happens behind doors so I trust what the coaches are doing.

I have enjoyed OU getting such nice press lately ... but I hate it when the team is playing bad but no one wants to say that and they think up a million excuses. We're NOT #1 anymore and not even top-10 and we're playing like #2.

I wonder if it's not a ceiling thing like someone suggested a few days ago. We dont have much more ceiling room left and our team looked so much better than everyone else because we were at mid season strength to start the season and others might catch up. And boy did they.

Still think we make second weekend in march tourney.

Defense.

Just slow to recognize what's developing.

Right! Don't know if LK and staff thought best to start trying McNeace now, if AK had bad attitude in practice, if AK missed class, etc, etc. Coaching staff is only ones qualified to make the call and I'm trusting them.

I understand the frustration, due to the fact that we are seeing Lattin and McNease out there extensively, and neither one is ready. But I think that just means that AK is even less ready. It's obvious that the biggest weakness on this squad is post players not named Ryan Spangler, and Kruger is doing the best he can with what he has. This team would kill for an Andrew Fitzgerald.

Guerin Emig tweeted last night that Manyang had fallen out of favor with the coaches. It was something like they reached the conclusion that he's not ready.

This just shows you that its time to go away from recruiting juco players. Its a waste of a scholarship when you only get bench minutes from them during their senior year. He keeps recruiting them and they keep being not contributors.

That view is as narrow-minded as it gets. Wow!

It's the same it's been last few weeks. The bigs inside can barely catch a pass and if they do, they're 50/50 to hit a layup or dunk.

We're pretty damn good considering this weakness.

most of the time if you post anything "bad" about their play you get called out as a troll, aggie, horn or something else

Not entirely true. We like people to post intelligently and be logical. When OU loses, the circus tent goes up and the clown posts start. Make intelligent and logical posts and you get discussion, from most here. Act like a clown and you get treated accordingly.

Isn't AK a soph with 3 years to play? Or does he just have 1 more year?

Yes, that's correct.

Actually, he was answering my question with that tweet. :oldwt356:

Theres no view about it. The proof is below.

Nick Thompson, CJ Washington, Sam Grooms, Casey Arent, DJ Bennett, Dinjiyl Walker, Keshaun Hamilton, AK Manyang, Dom Elliot, Giovanni McClean, and Darion Strong.

Everyone was talking about how AK was going to come in and start and now he's got McNease ahead of him and he's not even seeing the floor. Even James is starting to cut into Walker's minutes. I'm just done with the juco recruits.

Go back more than 10 years and most our best players were transfers, by wide margin.
