I too, am off the JUCO bandwagon. What we have been getting are marginal backups at best. IF you need a JUCO for emergency depth, that's fine. But relying on them for a key role even as a backup is not going to work. Obviously Walker was a product of circumstance: our backup PG transferred out of the program, and we needed someone who was ready to play. Last year we had no one, this year we have freshmen who aren't ready.
And the thing about Walker is that he's better than most JUCOS we've gotten in the last decade. He's not exactly what you want out there, but he can at least hold his own. We've had so many Casey Arents, Orlando Allen's, and Keshaun Hamilton's that flat out could not play.
Ding, ding, ding...we have a winner. It sure took you guys awhile to figure this one out. Prep schools have had a huge effect on recruiting. The effect on JCs had been enormous BUT it is still very possible to find a gem there. It's very difficult to find stars but there are capable parts available they're just tougher to find. We certainly don't base our efforts on finding JCs and I imagine in a year or so we will rarely sign one. Lon recruits a lot like Sutton did up north. He's signed more JCs just filling roster spots but in time all our guys will be HS signees or D-1 transfers.
CowboySooner, I think AK would be our best option at the 5. I do think it would take a few games for him to get in the groove. He is 7' tall (can't teach that). You, me, and only like 2 other people in the entire fan base share this opinion though. We must be wrong. This team flat out are not playing with the passion they were early in the year. Also, be careful, if your not pumping sunshine about team people "in the know" will come at you crazy.
Man, I completely agree. I've seen times when Ak came in and the opposing team stopped coming into the lane. LSU game is an example of this. That kid needs to be playing 25 minutes a night.
