Recruiting Class 2015

With our history of 3 final fours, our facilities, good school, good attendance, etc, we have plenty to offer. At some point Sherri has to ask herself if her assistants are elite recruiters. If the answer is no, she needs to take action.

Norm, I think our elite recruiting left with Hansmeyer. OU should be signing a top recruit or two every year. Whatever we are doing isn't working. We need to change directions. It's okay to recruit Ohio and Florida, but we should be camping out in Texas, especially the DFW area.

I could not agree with you more!

If OU could tap in to the DFW elite aau program that would be great.

There are plenty of great players that come out of that area. If we could sign just one or two of the best players every year, it would make a huge difference in our program.

Here is a player I would like OU to go after. Megan Gustafson(Wisconsin-South Shore, 6'4"). OU has had success in that state. She ranks 7th in career scoring with 1 year left. 2nd and 3rd best single season in scoring.

Any player who averages 29 PPG and 19 RPG is worth getting to know.

Norm/Mike,
verballed to Iowa.
I was looking at her bio when I started looking at the HS players from Iowa/Wisconsin/Florida since they seem to be Sherri's new territories.
Instead of you know, Texas.

Women's basketball isn't like football recruiting. The best players go all over the place and recruiting isn't nearly as regional. As an example on prospectsnation they list 10 Texas high school girls as top 150 players for 2014. Of those ten 2 went to UT and 1 went to Baylor. The other 7 went to Notre Dame, UCLA, Penn, USC, New Mexico St, Arizona and Kansas.

Generally you have to cast a wide net and recruit all over the country if you want to compete and have a chance at being in the top 10.

cuda,
True geography is less of an issue in hoops recruiting than football.

Still OU's lack of presence in Texas recruiting is a little scary.

I see your point...and I do agree OU has to up its recruiting to get back to consistent top 10 level. I just don't think a heavy Texas focus is the best way to do that.

How many players from other states go to the Texas schools?

Well, Hypocrite U must have lost the Texas touch as Skeletor will only have 4 or 5 Texans on their roster next year. Kinda surprising with all their success. I wonder if Texas high school/AAU coaches got their fill of Kim?

85% of high school basketball girls stay within 100 mile radius of where they live. Now, that isn't true for the top 10 ranked players but for the rest of them it is.

I think the next two or three years will be interesting regarding Baylor recruiting. While a lot of Texas schools have not been all that successful keeping Texas talent in-state, Baylor has had some good players from Texas. But, I get the feeling that what Kim has been recruiting is the "us against the world" type player, and stories like that of Griner may begin to erode some of that. The Dallas Cowboy players said that Johnson had worn out his welcome among the team members with his psychological games, and I wonder if Kim will not experience something similar. It will be interesting to see how effective she is and what type of player she is able to recruit going forward. Texas' primary success may be in securing some of the prospects that did tend to go to Baylor.

A lot of players leave Texas. How many come into Texas to go to school?

go warriors,
to be honest, it's the top 30 that I'm most interested in.

All evidence shows unless you have a core top 30 to 50 kids on your roster, you are not going to the Final Four.

the talent gap/dropoff after those players seems pretty wide.
