William Jennings checks in with with 2012 commitment Richard Peters, 2012 recruit Perry Ellis, 2013 recruit Julius Randle and 2013 recruit Stevie Clark.

Update

What do you expect? Recruits usually don't love programs without a coach. Things will improve once we make a hire.

Someone said in another thread that Guerrero's commitment to OSU had nothing to do with Capel's firing. It's my opinion that it had everything to do with Capel's firing – and I believe we'll hear more bad news from other recruits.

Hopefully, the bleeding will stop if the right man is hired.

So you think we lead for Cezar?

Sucks about Randle, although I do not think Cape could have reeled him in anyway.

Great article, Greg. Thanks for sharing.

Here is the most intriguing comment in the article:

OUHoops.com reached out to sources in the Ellis camp that expressed that “OU is out of the running for Perry until they get a new coach.” Ellis’ camp also revealed that they saw the writing on the wall in Ellis’ recent visit to Norman.

Sounds like chewy was right on again that Capel knew for at least 2 weeks before the season was over that he was done in Norman.

Fairly typical response from recruits who have developed a close relationship with a head coach. We all knew that Coach Capel's departure would not be received well. He's a likeable guy who has always been good at communicating on a pesonal level with the kids he recruits.

I'll repeat what I said on another thread yesterday. If OU makes the right hire, the recruits we're in on as well as the players who have already signed an LOI will likely continue their interest in coming here. It could also open the door to some new faces we have not considered. One has to believe that our new coach will have his own list of recruits, with ties and relationships similar to those enjoyed by Coach Capel.

Well done, WJ! Thanks!!!

I hope you are right, but recent history does not really back up your argument.

I mean maybe, but the timeline seems to matchup.

This is exactly the case.

Based on past results where his recruits the best we could get anyway?

OU just should go ahead & shut the program down!!!Alot of people on this board wanted Coach Capel gone,so you have to expect some recruiting fallout.Let's get someone hired & see what shakes out..Go Sooners!!!

A good hire will get OU back in on some of these guys and will also get them in on some guys we weren't in on before. We'll be fine with a good hire.

Oh no!
It seems we've upset all the kids who wanted to become Jeff Capel's best friend and then play basketball at UNC!

Nothing is guaranteed, TINY, but here's the way I see it.

If the new coach can do anything at all in signing a player or two in April, or bringing a commit or a recruit he may be in on with him, he will have surpassed anything we can be certain of if our former coach was still here.

My point is, it's not like we had a top-ranked recruiting class on the way or a long list of high-profile recruits waiting to sign an LOI next month. Far from it. Osby is without a doubt the best player in our 2011 class. He is already on campus and is not going anywhere. That leaves Goff, a pre-season JUCO AA who hasn't played like one this season. He is averaging 9.6 points and 6 boards in 28 games. If he doesn't make it to OU, I don't see that as a major cause for concern.

There is always the possibility that someone may transfer. I just don't think anyone who is projected to make a significant contribution next season will leave the program, providing Joe C. brings in the right coach and does it within a reasonable time. Why would any of those guys leave and sit the bench somewhere next year? Nothing about that makes sense to me. Sure, they're upset that Coach Capel is gone. That's human nature. No one expected them to be happy about it. None of us wanted to see him leave under these circumstances. But I believe the kids coming back next season will be fine, when they get over the shock and have time to think about why cutting Jeff loose was necessary.

Oh no, this means that if we would have kept Capel we would have signed all 4, 2 would have transferred within one year, 1 would have been a non-contributor, and one would have been average.

Oh, the horror!!
