Reger Dowell gone as well

I just read on gopokes that this whole thing is not a problem.
Apparently, Cezar is the best PG and he was having his minutes stolen by Fred and Reger, so now that they are gone (still unclear on how Ford ran them off by giving them more playing time) Cezar is going to shine, much like Weeden did. Also, Reger and Fred left because they didn't want to compete with Cezar. This is the part that seems to defy logic, but they seem very confident about it. Apparently, by them getting more and more playing time, Reger and Fred could tell that Cezar was going to take the lead spot at point. :facepalm

Pokes logic doesn't have to make sense. It's their way of dealing with reality.

Technically Olukemi was part of that recruiting class, kind of. But he needs to pull his head out or follow the others.

Page was named the starting point guard after the Alabama game. Dowell got pissed and left. (Dowell gets pissed a lot) Hopefully OSU can find a shooting guard that is above 6' tall that can shoot to replace him.

I don't know why Eddie would be laughing, the spiral started with him.

Olukemi looked like a star in the making two years ago. He wasn't that bad last year, but is nowhere near as good as I thought he would be this season.

As for Dowell, it's only natural for a kid to get upset when he's told he's being replaced in the starting lineup. It's all in how that bit of bad news is presented to the player. Carl Blair, for example, could have reacted the same way. But he has embraced the idea of playing the role of a back up to Grooms this season.

Are these kids a product of Travis and his banty rooster style, or were they simply mistakes in recruiting? Seems odd to me that an entire recruiting class with so much promise would leave the program under what appears to be questionable circumstances. Not passing judgement on Ford. I'm just curious about your take in the matter?

Here's my optimist/pessimist take:

Optimist:

That first recruiting class failed because it was Ford's first class. He hadn't established anything at OSU and he was just trying to sign the best talent he could, regardless of how he thought those guys might or might not do with his coaching style, tendencies, and the existing roster.

He probably thought a few of them might wash out, but at that point, what he really needed was warm bodies. (Remember how thin his first OSU team was...they only went like 7 deep.)

Clearly the guys in his second class all seem to have it more together than his first class.

Pessimist:

So even if that's the case, it seems like he should have been able to hang on to at least 1 or 2 out of 6 guys. As we all recall from the Capel era, a big part of a head coaches' job is to manage the egos and personalities of his players.

So the question is: where do we go from here?

My thought is that from right now until the beginning of conference play next year we'll know. This is either a temporary speed bump on the way back to program stability, or the beginning of the end.

Only time will tell.
