Rivals 2014 Ranking

Outside of the Griffins and Gallon, who are the last true big men that we've signed, that were ranked in the top 100, or 150? I can't think of many. Seems like we've made due with non-ranked kids, transfers, and JUCO's for the most part.

Fitzgerald was a top 100 type.

Meh

Meh rankings of any kind are superfluous, at least to me.

That's kind of what I figured. Regardless, it's never bad to see a commit ranked in the top 150 for whatever reason.

I think it's cool that OU is the only Big 12 school that has a Top 150 commit in the 2014 class at this point and one of only 3 Big 12 schools to have a top 150 commit for the 2013 class.

Wait a second - Rivals puts out these rankings without ever having seen some of these kids? Tells you all you need to know about how much these rankings are worth.

I took this to mean that is Sam's best guess...not a 100% certain fact.

His ranking is at about the same time as Kyle Hardrick when he verballed. I believe he was in the top 30, and we all know how that turned out. If Hammond is #131 12 months from now, I might not be as excited about him coming to OU as I am now.

Not following your logic.

BTW, unlike most I put zero stock into any recruiting rankings.

In the past I've read from Rivals guys that they don't rank guys until they've seen them. I remember Kasey Hill was left out of their initial 2013 rankings despite being a top 20 guy on most other lists because they hadn't seen him yet, and Otto Porter was left out until late in their 2011 rankings for the same reason (ended up at 37).

I don't know if they've actually seen him play in person, but I'd assume they've at least seen some film. I'm pretty sure they don't rank guys blindly for symbolic reasons.

I was just pointing out that rankings after sophomore seasons should be taken with a grain of salt. There are zillions of Kyle Hardrick examples to prove that.

I'll trust Kruger's evaluation of talent over Jeff Capel (who stuck with Hardrick after the knee injury...)

Jacob had a really showing at some exposure camps in California and a lot of national scouts got the chance to see him for the first time. He was ranked as the number 18th center in the nation by a website called hoopniks.com. I recently talked a mid major assistant coach and he said Jacob is a Kruger type player and that Kruger gets a lot of out kids like Jacob. the biggest thing about this kid is he's eager to learn and has a great work ethic.
