Ro' gettin some draft love

I have been posting on this board for almost two years that Osby wasn't a hair over 6'6". Come to find out he is 6'6". You, however, are welcome to believe whatever you want.

Do you want a cookie or something?

He plays in basketball shoes. No one cares what his height is without shoes on.

I bet Osby proves you wrong. Will you come back and beat your chest about that as well?

All basketball shoes are not the same. Some shoes raise a players height more than others. A player could be measured in a "taller" shoe than they actually play in.

If you want to know how tall someone is, measure them without their shoes on. If you want to argue without the benefit of useful information, consult the school's media guide.

Who cares what the media guide says? They always exaggerate or in some cases sandbag.

Whatever shoe he's wearing, he ain't 6'6, thus useless to use that height.

If how tall a player is without shoes wasn't an important number, then they wouldn't measure them. They would just eyeball them or just ask the player how tall they wanted to be listed. But, they don't do that do they?

They measure them without shoes to achieve a standard of consistency with their measurements. Without that standard, measurements are meaningless.

Do you think football players are weighed with all of their gear on? After all, they play football with all their gear on. How about baseball players. Are they measured from the crown of their caps to the ground to find out how tall they are? After all, they play baseball with caps on.

you make a valid point but you don't judge how they are going to play based on their height without shoes.

It's a moot point. Without standardized measurements, you have no measurement.

And besides, other measurements are more important as a predictor of NBA skills than how tall a person is. Wing span is a better predictor of rebounding ability than how tall some one might be. There are many others.

Listing Osby at 6'8" was and is an exaggeration. In reality, he is about a 1/2 inch taller than Tyler Neal and more than an inch shorter than M'Baye. It's no skin off my nose concerning how tall he is. I just said that in the NBA he will run up against players just as good and a couple of inches taller. And with everything else equal, the taller player would have the advantage.

Not always. The best rebounder in the 90s was 6-7 inches tall(Rodman) and that was era dominated by great and tall centers. There aren't the centers today the 90s had with Shaq, Hakeem, Ewing, and Robinson.

But that's for a different discussion. Osby if he makes the NBA will basically have to play more of a Najera type role in the NBA. Thug games up a bit, shoot the outside jumper some. Rebound and defend. Probably never get really big minutes consistently.

Nothing wrong with that, Najera made a 12 year NBA career out of it. Although Najera did average 18 minutes a game over that 12 year career

Yep, nothing wrong with making a paycheck in the NBA like Najera did. Again still not sure if Osby will make it there though. I kinda thought Ace McGee would make the NBA about 10 years ago.

So if you're 100% sure that he isn't a hair over 6'6, how did he measure in at 6'7 WITHOUT shoes on at the combine?

Is everyone at the combine wrong?

6'7 without shoes and 6'8.5 with shoes are VERY good for Ro.

Really wish the best for Ro. He turned out to be an outstanding Sooner, both on the court and off.

Even though you have nothing resembling 1st hand knowledge and you just want to argue, I'll assume your are right. I'll go forward believing Osby and Labron are the same size. Makes perfect sense to me.

And how many times have "scouts" and "experts" been proved wrong because they thought so and so QB was too short or so and so shortstop was too small. You can take your height. I'll take heart. Ro's got both, especially the latter.

I too hope that Ro makes an NBA roster. He kind of reminds me of a guy that played for the Houston Rockets a few years ago: Carl Landry. He was undersized but does a good job playing inside, and I notice he's still making an NBA paycheck after 7-8 years in the league. Landry and Osby are close to the same size and skill set.

Great article with lots of props for one of my all-time favorite Sooners.

I have no doubt that Ro will impress any GM or coach he talks to. His personality and humble but confident demeanor will win them over right away. I would love to see him get the chance to do it with his performance on the court through the NBA draft. If not, I hope he will at least get a shot to make a team via the summer league route.
