Robert Goff signs release.

On scholarship next season for sure:
Senior: 1. CJ Washington.
Junior: 2. Carl Blair 3. Steven Pledger 4. Andrew Fitzgerald 5. Romero Osby 6. Casey Arent
Sophomore: 7. Cam Clark 8. Tyler Neal 9. Calvin Newell

Redshirt:10. Amath M'Baye

Currently still on scholarship, but won't be by the summer:
11. Nick Thompson 12. Kyle Hardrick

So currently we have 1 open scholarship. It's looking like there is about a 99% chance we will have 3 open scholarships. I think we need to get an incoming freshman or two.

Grooms, dude...

You're missing Sam Grooms in your list. We have to be careful not to fill up our ships this year, especially if it isn't an impact player because next year we only have one senior on the roster and thus one scholarship to give should we fill them up this year. The one exception I would be willing to make would be a HS post player who may be two years away from making an impact, like the kid from Kansas.

Yep.

There is talk of us leaving one scholarship "open" as well, and kind of self-assessing that penalty on ourselves in hopes that the NCAA will accept it, and we won't lose any schollies in 2012 or going forward. That is just talk though.

I'd almost rather leave both 'ships open, and that way, we'd have three to offer next year, and multiple the year after that. Or maybe Honore will get one next year, who knows.

I think those are all good ideas.

Thompson has told them he is leaving school. Hardrick won't be asked back so there are 2 scholarships open. No way we use both. We have to leave at least one open for the NCAA to use next year if they want it. Hopefully they don't but next year is a waste so burn it then.

Glad it is finally official about Goff. This staff won't recruit head cases like the former coaches.

Damn.
We have way too many juniors...

It's going to because nice change having 6 grown up experienced juniors next year. Those guys are going to lead us to the tournament next season.

It will definitely be nice for the next two years. I don't question that.
I just worry about 2013. Our only juniors will be jucos. And I think there's some merit to building chemistry between players over 3 or 4 years.

At this point though, I think we should just save our last scholarships and get 2 or 3 freshmen next year. That way they will be sophomores when Cam and co. are seniors, and we can bring in some jucos.

I like the idea of saving the scholarships for next year. Bring in three freshman who are hopefully good enough to see some spot time in 2012. Then, the following a strong NCAA run, bring in 4-5 freshmen who upgrade the talent even more. If that happens, and no one leaves (yeah, right!) our roster would be:

4 Seniors (Clark, Neal, Newell, M'baye)
0 Juniors
3 Sophmores
4-5 Freshmen

The staff could then bring in a couple Jucos or transfers (something they seem to like doing) to balance out the roster.

This scenario provides two straight seasons ('12 and '13) where the team has solid, senior experience on the floor. In my book, that leads to trips to the NCAA.
