Couple notes about subjects on this thread.

I don't believe Thompson was a juco all american, he played on a team that lost the championship game and many expected him to improve with better minutes and what not. He was/is versatile guy on offense but it proved to be his complete lack of defense that doomed him.

Goff was a pre season juco all american and I believe it was based on a couple good performances at some juco camps in July. I know he played well at the one in Tulsa and Eric Bossi of Rivals was impressed with him at one in Vegas as well. Considering the massive turnover in the juco ranks my guess is that those camps more or less decide the juco all americans.

Also juco talent is indeed down, many kids would rather go for the one year at prep school to boast their stock then spell two years in the random locales that JuCo's are. I really doubt if you ever see a team built like the 2002 Sooners were and make the Final Four again. White, Ere, Ace, Selvy, Detrick and YoYo were all jucos. Just insane numbers and talent.

Not to be a downer, but Bossi said the following about Thompson last year (this was posted by AdaSooner last April):

Having seen all the teams here, I'd be real tempted to go with Eastern Utah's Nick Thompson as best prospect. Skilled big man.

And...I can't find anything that listed Thompson as a JUCO AA, but I think his recruitment picked up steam after the national tourney last year, from the old threads I've sifted thru.

Thompson had a strong tournament on a team that made it to the finals, so I'm not surpised a lot of his recrutment picked up. I bet that tournament was the only time the teams that recruited saw him play. I suspect the same was true for other players in the tournament.

For those of you who are not familiar with JUCO...All American is one of the most overrated accolades you can receive. For instance, there are 4-5 guys just in the Jayhawk Conference on any given year who could be AA, but a majority of the team is slotted for players who make the national tournament in Hutch. This is primarily due to the lack of recruiting updates and scouting for the JUCO ranks. Factor in high turnover and it's hard to keep tabs on everyone. Lots of players (including Thompson) get picked up at the national tournament...just how it works at that level.

Omar Leary - JUCO All American, only because his Northeastern team made it to Hutch.

I think the Baylor game at Baylor was his last action. He played really bad in that game.

I think that was it.

I didn't play a ton of basketball and never at the D-1 level (or even close), but I know enough to know that it was that one play that killed him at OU for at least this season. Total lack of heart and commitment in setting a single, easy screen, even worse if he is/was the vocal leader of this team. Could be wrong about what it is really all about, but for a guy to bail on a screen is pretty bad at this level.

The guy above him is going to the powerhouse that is Southern Miss (I know they're improved, but still) and the guy below him is going to Wichita State (I know they're good at their level, but still)...wow
